What the hell was he thinking on that play before halftime? Everybody and their mother knew that they had to pass and if they did run it. Then I would have been able to live with it. Why do we always take New Englands leftovers? Chatam and Kassel I can live without. Some of Chads passes were good but most of them are either out of bounds or its like hes throwing to Shaq.

Kassel is from TEN and is actually a very good blitzing LB whos put up 100 tackle seasons before.

    chatham is garbage though.

Oh I forgot what about Vilma. We need him to make one play this year and he goes for the strip and misses badly. I know alot of people feel like his is not the right fit for the 3-4, but maybe he is not that good. I hope he is but you never see him doing anythign anymore. I know he is the captain of the defense and calls the plays but we need big plays.

Your right about Tennesse but he never had 100 tackles in a season and only came close one year. Cmon everyone knew he had to throw what the hell was he thinking. If he such a good blitzing lb how come I never heard him making a play or seeing him blitz. I might have missed it.

The Kassell play referred to in this play is more of a coaching mistake than a player mistake. Kassell (for whatever reason) is a part of the goal line package. Since the coaches for both teams, all the fans, and even the TV guys knew the play would be a pass play and not a run why didnt the coaches sub in their regular package -- Barton for Kassell. You cant really blame a guy who is brought in to stop the run on the goal line for thinking run first and pass second in a quick hitting situation in which instinct takes over. Kassell should not have been on the field.

Kassell and Chatam can both get pink slips as far as I'm concerned....as for Vilma, yes it looks horrible in hindsight but if he recovers a fumble and runs it in for the score he would have been looked at as a hero right now. He gambled and lost...hopefully he'll grow from this mistake.

Word -- they're both marginal players... time to upgrade.

I agree that this was not one of Vilma's best years, and I agree that he should have just made the sack and laid Brady out. But Vilma did make another goal line stuff, which was a great hit, and he is still young with soo much potential. We have to keep Vilma.

Vilma did gamble his technique was wring on that, i remember when abe tried to swat the ball from qbs on a rush he always swong with his rigt hand and pulled the qb down with his left thats what Vilma should of done.

Vilma is still a great player- it didn't help that one of our DE was consistently behind manhandled (von Oelhoffen) by the O-line.

Chatham and Kassel are marginal players, I don't even want to see them on special teams next year.

Without question! I'm almost sure he'll learn from that...and lay out brady next time......

Kassell played for Tennesee, not NE.

Bingo, he should have used his right hand to the ball and left hand to wrap up brady. its ok though he will learn from it.

Kassell is a bad penny. He was told what to do on the play, ignore the run. He didn't and blew the play.

    from the Globe:
"With 14 seconds left in the first half and New England facing third and 1 from the Jets' 1 with the score tied, Mangini called timeout. He cautioned his defense the Patriots must throw in that situation because if they did not the clock would run out before they could set up their field goal team. He reminded them that the field was short and the throw likely would be in the back of the end zone.

After the ball was snapped, the play unfolded as predicted. Brady dropped back and tight end Daniel Graham was closely covered by linebacker Brad Kassell after a play-action fake. But for just an instant the defense reacted to the fake it had been cautioned to ignore, and that moment of hesitation was all it took for Brady to rifle a laser to Graham just out of Kassell's reach. Thus with only 11 seconds left, the Patriots had broken the tie. They made the play. The Jets didn't."

:drunk: wonderful....he basically predicted everything correct but the player still bit on the Play Action....I'm looking forward to his release....no excuse to miss his assignment.

As for Vilma, the proper technique is to go for the strip sack....but Vilma had NO INTENTION on trying to bring Brady down....it was a Fumble or Bust for him on that play....way to risky for my tastes, but if he pulls it off everyone on this board would be saying 'What a gutsy, athletic move by Vilma ....etc.'

Personally, I can't blame him.....I've seen that my offense can only score on miracle plays and they can't punch it in from the endzone, I would go for the knockout blow myself.

Vilma was trying to do 2 things. Swat the ball and Rip Bradys Throwing Shoulder similar to that Jax play last season that ended Chad's Year. I cant be sure about this but it sure looked like it.
