Just have one thing to say,,, to Jets Fans. Don't give up on Zach! The team has invested a lot on him, & if he fails, it's gonna really hurt the team, possibly for years. So, it's in the best interests of the team, that Zach Wilson becomes 'The Guy.' To help ease people's upset, here's Zach's presser today. (But first... seeing him stand up there, showed me something -- It could not have been easy for Zach, to go out there like he did. If you've ever spoken in front of a lot of people, it aint easy... especially at first. And to do that with all the daggers coming at him... that took courage. Whereas, I wasn't necessarily pulling for Zach, now I am.) -------------->
I wish Zach all the best as a person, but the fact that he was drafted 2nd is meaningless. We need the QB who gives us the best odds going forward, and if it's not Zach, it's not Zach.
I'm rooting for Zach too. Always positive Saleh calling the move a "reset" is perfect. It's a chance for the kid to reboot, work on his mechanics and be ready when his number is called. I hope the Jets call in someone to coach him, whether it's Kurt Warner or another specialist who can help get Zach back on track. He's a a kid. He made a mistake. We've all done that a time or two. Good Luck Zach. Go Jets.
If we fall into the sunken cost fallacy, we’ll set the franchise back even further. The best thing for Wilson is probably to be stashed for a year and see if he starts to become a legitimate NFL quarterback over the next year in camp and practice.
Zach did a good job in front of the media today, but it isn't hard to say the right things after you've been benched, especially when you probably had some media training between now and Sunday. The issue with Zach is he has been bad for 2 years. He already had to play a lot better down the stretch to really make you confident in him as the answer in 2023, and the odds were against it. Once the post-game stuff comes out, it looks a little closer to a sunk cost. I think we'll likely bring him back next season to compete with whoever we bring in, depending who that is. If Zach takes a leap forward, he will likely have a chance to prove that at some point.
Yes indeed, and as time moves on if it’s not White, so b it. Zach will play if and only when he can show he will give us the best odds.
Zach may be an inadequate QB, but at least he revealed here that his personality doesn't auto-disqualify him.
White is not the long term answer, but at this moment most believe he does give us a better shot at winning Sunday. We will know if that's the true case after Sunday. If White does bad against a shitty team like Chicago, we should quickly move on, since he has been around the NFL for five seasons and has yet to show he has the ability to start for any team. Who is the right guy to lead the team? Not Joe Flacco and the coaching staff sent that clear message when White was promoted to QB#2. If White shits the bed, I don't want Flacco starting, I want Streveler to get a true shot. At least he is exciting.
I hope we will no longer see Zach get any minutes because he has potential, and that he only sees the field again if and when the staff thinks he is the best available QB.
I'm trying to be optimistic, but he needs a lot of work slowly the game down to a level he can run a offense smoothly
Do you really think JD wouldn't go find a Vet QB if one is available if it comes to that? Flacco I have no idea why he's still on the roster as he has no intention on mentoring Zach. If Zach's performance is any reflection of Flacco's mentorship? they need to cut Flacco today. I seriously think for the near term the Jets should choose a Vet QB to come in and steady the ship. Zach need to sit behind a Vet QB that actually knows how to play NFL QB and learn. Maybe even spend some time up in the booth with MLF to see how plays develop. Zach Wilson is not the be all /end all of the New York Jets now that we have a Championship caliber defense. Zach can be replaced with a quality Vet QB if one is available and familiar with the system. We need a competent QB. If its Zach? fine. If not? fine. The show will go on...
Nice to see him taking account and expressing that he intends to fix his issues. I thought the questions & insults about his character were a bit over the top... but sheesh... that headband... Nobody should be faulted for supporting Zach... his athleticism and arm talent was... and is... worth developing. I'd point the spotlight at QB coach Rob Calabrese... he's the guy that should be apologizing to the team & the fans...
The Flaco thing may be one of the biggest mysteries on this team... when he was first signed, he pretty much said he wasnt there to be a mentor (until he accepted that he's he's an old washed up dude).... THEN Jetted out of town first chance, only to be reeled back in via trade.... Not to mention that his skillset doesnt really fit LaFleur's offense. it's a weird dynamic. I didnt have a problem with the coaching staff using him as a human tackling dummy at the beginning of the season as they figured out the O-line woes though...
Of course, that's very easy for you, & others to say, however for the TEAM, reality is a very different matter. A #2 pick in a draft, is far from meaningless for the TEAM. The investment is huge... although they never invested in hiring somebody, to actually teach him how to be an NFL QB. And now that he's benched, who's there to help him learn? But that's beside the point. As a fan, I want Zach to succeed, because it's the best outcome for the TEAM. And hopefully, the CS is up to the task.
And if it doesn't happen??? How long do you want to wait on Zach suddenly becoming a NFL QB? If this team were at the same point in development, perhaps you'd could make the case that time is on your side. That is not the case anymore. The Defense is a quantum leap over the shit product being put on the field run by a kid QB. I would submit Zach one day will be ready, but that day isn't here yet and we really don't want or have another 5 years to wait for Zach. We have a window to win and if Zach isn't up to the task, bench him and find someone who is. There's no one presently on the roster to teach Zach anything. Certainly not Flacco who came out and said he's no mentor. MW isn't a candidate either so this offseason, expect JD to bring in a viable Vet QB and Zach can sit, hold his clipboard and learn how to do his job.
Eh this isn’t 2010 any more where the Rams take Sam Bradford and by default have to give him one of the richest NFL contracts without ever playing a snap. There’s a rookie salary cap and the Jets have had a plethora of top 60 picks over the past couple years. It doesn’t set the franchise back any more like it used to. The Rams moved on from Goff, they win a SB. The Eagles move on from Wentz, they win a SB that year after he gets hurt and now they have the best record in the league. Tampa Bay with Jameis, Tennessee with Mariota, etc. What sets a franchise back is when they hold on to a player like Baker Mayfield too long just hoping he’s the guy and the championship part of the roster is going to be exiting their prime (Chubb, Ward, Garrett) within a year or two because they didn’t try to pivot sooner.
I said this a couple days ago. I think some fans don't realize it. The best thing for the Jets franchise is for Zach to develop into a franchise QB. Signing a veteran like Jimmy G or Minshew is fine, but it will be tough for them to put the Jets over the top. Wilson is the QB who can do that. Now, at the moment, he is doing the opposite. Holding the team back. Have to hope something clicks in his head and he makes a jump when he returns to the line-up and an even bigger jump when he returns in 2023.
I dont think anyone disagrees with that.... but there needs to be a plan in place if he does not (especially based on current performance)
