Eh, I’m sure it played a part especially because he has been absolutely trashed by anyone that has spoken his name this week. But who cares how long it took or what the motivating factor was? Him being inactive is the right move. The worst thing you could have is White goes down and you put him into a tie or one score game and he throws a pick 6.
Completely agree. Moreover, I wonder if Zach isn't now doubting what the CS - in particular MLF and the QB Coach - are telling him? After all, from what I've seen Zach has tried to do what they asked him to do and it's led to this. I'm not saying it's their fault, but they have some blame to share in it. I still think they should bring in Kurt Warner but I know it won't happen for lots of reason, not the least of which why should Warner want to do it, but in any case they need to bring in someone Zach respects and believes in as someone who knows how to develop QBs. They made him the #2 pick and they should do whatever it takes to make him succeed. IMO they haven't done that.
Nobody makes big moves in haste. Really the question is why a much smaller move: benching him at half time last week didn't happen. Saleh has gotten an enormous amount of good fortune this season. That's the primary reason the Jets were where they were at 5-2. He's gotten a ridiculously lucky miracle win that relied 100% on the incompetence of the opponent. He's faced not one but two rookie QB's making their first appearance - which is like an 80% win thing in the NFL. These all happened in the first 5 games of the season allowing the Jets a positive start and time for the defense to gel. Now he's really screwed the pooch in the Patriots games. Both games Zach should have come out late to give the Jets a fighting chance. Both games Zach was allowed to sink the team in the second half. The result of this is that two great defensive performances were wasted. Leaving ZW in there to further damage the season just wasn't an option. When a head coach loses credibility with his players he never gets it back. Lose the locker room once and you are on your way out the door sooner in a good organization but definitely later even in a bad one.
100%. And it wasn't even a full quote. The full quote was "Why now? Why me, I want to play?" The "reporter" completely dropped the why now part to make it sound more about "me" and "I". Also, Saleh was paraphrasing what he said any player would say in this situation. That wasn't in the tweet either. What a dishonest tool. I mean Zach already said enough crap to bury himself, there is no need to make things appear worse than they are.
Sanchez understood he was the weak link and adapted his role to support the team within that context. By 2011 Sanchez wasn't the weakest link but things were beginning to deteriorate around him and he wasn't the kind of QB who could compensate for gaping holes around him.
Yep. He's got a team around him now. One of the better ones in the league and if he can just manage to not fuck it up he's going to stick around the NFL for a long time. Probably as a backup but who knows?
I wonder if competent QB play is all we need with a strong defense. The 49ers were a 4th quarter collapse away from winning it all with Garoppolo. Now, I'd love to have an elite player who can make up for deficiencies on the team, but getting that guy is easier said than done.
its BS. Chez had a 5 INT game when we had 300+ rusing yards. his MNF performence vs Balt 2010 was almost an indetical stat line as last weeks except it added 2 INT. and this is not a defense of ZW.
GB and Bills was basic QB competence. ZW's QBR was 49 before last weeks game. Right in the basic, exceedingly balnd NON SUCK QB play zone. Which was about 20th on a 34 starting QB list on ESPN stats.
This is the second time Wilson has sat down. He missed the first three games and it didn't seem he learned much observing from the sidelines. Hope the second time is the charm.
Glad to see Zach step up and take some accountability today. I’ll stand by the fact that I think he’s a genuinely good dude that just made a stupid mistake in front of the NY media. Hopefully he uses this time off to really work on his game and comes back better for it.
It’s because I’m an old guy compared to many here. No, he’s not being rushed by todays standards. The way the economics of the NFL are today warrant the pattern. However, cramming starts into a 22 year old (I’m not sure Zach’s age) is a relatively new thing for pro football. If I recall Chad Pennington didn’t sniff the field in his rookie year until December and looked god awful when he did. He was also a first round pick, and is now looked at like a God by many here. Even Chad had to watch a lot of NFL football up close before doing it well. I didn’t want the rookie Sam Darnold starting right away either. Zach is 1.5 years younger now, than Pennington was in his debut.
Don’t get suckered in by the beat. Zach didn’t say any of those things like they would have you believe. Zach’s gotta get better as a QB and a leader but he’s not this pompous, entitled prick that most of the media would have us believe. At least in my opinion anyway.
It's a tough choice to bench Zach, especially when the plan (at least publcly) has been to play him no matter what. And it's an organizational decision. Bigger choice than just Saleh IMO. Nobody needed to know for sure who is starting until practice on Wednesday (and White was called last night, so they made the decision yesterday).
