...today Channel 4 first started showing the NFL I'm the UK. It was the day I choose the Jets. Thanks for my 40th birthday present!
Well glad all you Brits chose the Jets honestly. Except @K'OB of course. Wish he was a Lions fan. Lol
Interesting …. 40 years ago today they were on strike. I believe the strike ended in the middle of November with games resuming Nov 21. Maybe they aired games from before the strike …
Crueslest b'day gift I've ever heard of. Self masochisms much? Then again, after hanging out I can kinda see it.. lol
A guy I was stationed with in Korea got the clap on his 21st birthday from a hooker with a limp. I think his birthday present was better.
To be honest, despite having a virtually identical story to Donkey, I can blame mine too. (Well him and Flash Gordon). He professed to be a Giants fan and I was the right age to pick the cross town rivals of his team. Which just goes to show how little we knew of the way the NFL worked then and that they barely played each other. Wouldn't shock me that they did. Every game in the early years was an hour long highlights of a previous week's game anyway. That lasted for at least 3 or 4 years. The only live full game broadcast was the Superbowl. I do remember the next strike and replacement players though.
I think they showed a highlights package of the season so far...or part of it, and maybe a second round up the following week. Yeah, it was probably not the best season to start their coverage!
Btw, I did mean thanks for my Jets 40th Anniversary present... Not birthday! And the thanks was for the Bills victory to celebrate!
