the thing that most people don’t know is you don’t have to turn your head to make a great play. Just as long as your not obviously interfering or holding the player. Sauce just had a great instinct and awareness to know when to throw his hands up without even looking back. Sure at some point he will get a DPI, but in this NFL game all the great do. He is beyond good atm and reads the play and player like a vet
I wasn't sure it was the right pick with the OTs and some edge rushers still available, but it looks like the right pick thus far.. .here's hoping he continues to improve and anchor a back end for years.
Dont have to turn your head if you’re making a play on the ball that doesn’t impede the WRs ability to catch. I wouldn’t say we got away with one, I’d say we rightfully didn’t get flagged for a play there shouldn’t have been a flag on.
Gardner didn't touch Davis. Davis pulled him in because the Bills were counting on a P.I. call there. That's all they were doing, trying to get a miracle P.I. call I am glad the refs didn't overthink it and reward them because that woulda been a shitty way to tie what was a well played game
Waving your arms and not turning your head is not DPI. Turning your head only matters when there is contact before the ball arrives (turn your head because DB and Receiver have the right to the ball). There is no face interference in the NFL. You can wave your hands as much as want. If you really want to be technical the WR in this situation pushed off. This was a good no call.
you watch the eyes and when the receiver puts his hands up. That is why the great receivers wait to the last moment to put their hands up.
Right, fair enough but that wasn't said in the game thread at the time but would also explain why we didn't get our usual flag.
Sorry I forgot to tack onto the end of my post “when we usually get flagged and the game changes on a dime because of a bad call”
Sauce... forget the brilliant interception that set up a go ahead score.... He was around the ball all game... getting involved on gang tackles and making some great solo tackles. In all my years as a Jet fan I'm having a hard time remembering a rookie having as much of an impact so early.
contact is allowed. you just can't interfere with their ability to make a catch. you either have to be playing the ball or not interfering with the WR. putting a hand on them or hand fighting is perfectly fine. you can't grab and pull them or hold them or hook an arm though. most Cbs will put a hand on the WR to feel where they are while they locate the ball. that is perfect technique.
Over the years I've heard many commentators mention during slow motion replay "if only he would have turned his head towards the ball, it wouldn't have been called pass interference." Many of these replays show very little contact by the DB. So contact is allowed if, as they say, " as long as he's making a play for the ball." It's all very confusing and frustrating.
Sheldon Richardson had a great rookie season which is one of the reasons the Jets went 8-8 that year. He was the DROY that year.
because most DBs who don't turn their head are hooking an arm or pulling the WR or wrap an arm around them. it's perfectly legal to not look, have a hand on the back or hip and to put your other hand between their 2 hands when they raise them for the ball
Sauce gets the calls at the end because he doesn't take PI's elsewhere either. DPI is like speeding tickets. Once you get one the next follows and then before you know it it's like they're tracking you somehow. They are. Stay off the radar and you'll be fine.
You get that call when the DB does not turn around. Officiating is so bad in the NFL that things get really murky.
