Figure that Denver will be picking in the first half of each round with the way their season is going. We get their 4th for our 5th, and martin of course. It's like moving up 40+ picks in that round. Sounds good.
Seems like a decent player, but we're loaded at edge and have other guys who need more time. Good for them giving him a chance to actually play elsewhere.
so we cost ourselves 2.3m to jump up a handful of picks in two years from now?? this is a perfect example of rearranging the chairs on the titanic type of trade. i would rather that cap space than this stupid draft pick exchange in two years. i would not be happy if i was in that jets locker room and we're subtracting rather than adding, two years from now.
This frees up more playing time for Johnson and Clemons who are on their rookie deals. Promising rookies more playing time > eating a JAGs 2.3 million Correct me if I'm wrong, didn't we aquire Martin before 2022 draft? If so, things obviously changed and now Douglas pivots
And don't forget Huff. I think he has the highest pressure rate/snap in the league. He'll see more snaps now.
No you are misunderstanding the salary cap. Trading Martin saves the money left on his contract this year and the money guaranteed next year. What you are confusing is the cap charge for his signing bonus. Rather than paying it on next years cap it gets accelerated to this year. Overall over this year and next year the Jets save a small amount in his remaining salary this year and guaranteed next year.
14 posts in and no theories on how this somehow suggests we’re replacing/benching/executing Zach? This board has really gone downhill. Good move. Frees up room in the rotation for the young guys to get more time.
Good point, but I guess you're not aware that Martin's aunt Vera, gave Zach his first headband, which some say was too tight, & caused a lack of oxygen, which led to Zach's ADD, which obviously effects his ability to learn from his mistakes. Hence, the trade. </s>
In terms of projected draft value points, the denver 4th is worth 88 and our 5th worth 31.5 giving us a net of 56.5 pts. This is comparable to gaining pick 119 in the 4th round as the net value we received for Martin. Great deal IMO. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=den
Clears up cap to extend Huff, who is a better pass rusher than Martin. The edge rushers have remained healthy, so moving up a round for Martin is fine. It was going to be hard to extend Huff AND pay Martin what we're paying him in addition to Lawson, Johnson, etc.
Which is exactly why Denver didn't exchange 2023 picks, but 2024. Who knows what the standings will be back then. But JD got something for a guy we don't really need with Huff and Clemons unexpectedly outplaying him. Saved some CAP too. Decent little move.
