Hasn't he heard this isn't the same old Jets?! But barring injury, he's pretty buried on the depth chart here. Two relatively high-priced free agents entrenched in the offense and a 3rd round rookie ahead of him. The Giants have a decent rookie TE, but aren't looking good there otherwise
If you enter a hedgehog in a horse race, and he loses the horse race, you don't blame the hedgehog, you blame the guy that put the hedge hog in a horse race. It's not fair to be mad at McDermott. He has given his best. The fault lies in a decade of mismanagement that left the Jets in such shambles that McDermott was our best remaining option. McDermott's release speaks to the fact that we have improved the roster to the point that we no longer need him on the roster, even as a backup. Moving him to the practice squad means that, while we are better, we are not so much better that he doesn't even belong on our practice squad. For now, I'll take that. Let's hope that we can shore up the OL even further during 2023 FA and draft. The team is getting better.
I just learned this and I keep pretty close tabs--McDermott was signed off of PS a couple days ago--by Pats of all teams.
Not worth a thread of its own: Marcell Harris (#36) was cut 11/24 and resigned to the PS 11/26 Our PS guy Chazz Surratt was raised to active for the Bears game replacing Harris presumably who was on about 2/3 of ST plays. In 2021 Surratt had 98 ST snaps for Minny. Surratt was a 3rd rounder by Minnesota and interestingly, I believe he may have been selected with one of the 3rd rd picks we traded for AVT. Also Tanzel gets another activation form PS this Sunday.
