JFM has been fine, the problem is the way he's being used. The problem is the way every single person in the defensive trenches is being used. The "rotation" horse is already beaten to death so I won't beat it anymore but my god would it be nice to put our best players at their best position for 75% of the game. To keep it on the rookie topic... Johnson has been impressive vs. the run. He's got crazy strength that I think even the coaching staff didn't see coming. If he can put it all together then he could be a very very good DE in this league. He just won't have the numbers because of the system he plays in. Lawson - JFM - Q - Jermaine Johnson Man...
JD working the phones (hard!) and trading back up in the 1st to land Jermaine Johnson may be the highlight of this draft. Pass Rushers are right up there with QBs and LTs for importance. Even more than DB/WR. I know JJ wasn't the top rated rusher, but he already has 2 sacks with limited snaps, and he's a killer against the run.
...but paying for all this 1st round talent is where JD is going to earn his next contract. Quinnen, Becton, Zack, Vera-Tucker, Sauce, Garrett, and now Jermain. Which 3 do we keep?
I dont remember him inside in college, he belongs OUTSIDE, MOST DEFINITELY...what a shame cause he's their best pass rusher when that happens, watch.
And he was playing better before he got the cash, which is all I said. You're the only one mentioning sacks.
Let's pray this is a problem we have. You can eliminate Becton right off the bat. I can't fathom a GM sinking big money into a guy that's played in basically only one of his first three seasons.
No reason?!? He's a net negative out there--his WAR-to use baseball lingo-is negative. He doesn't make enough good plays to make-up for his negative plays and horrific penalties. I can't think of a DL off the top of my head who brings less value than him given his lucrative contract.
Thanks for reminding me that it's not just about offensive and defensive production. Maybe Ruckert hasn't yet found his feet in the offense, but he has been a special teams contributor. What a class this is turning out to be.

Daniel Jerimiah talks for about 8 minutes about the Jets, young players, JD, next year's draft needs and optimism for the future. Starting at 11 minutes and 14 seconds of this video.
This is a great problem to have, but we don’t have this problem yet. I personally don’t believe in re-signing DT’s unless they are HOF elite. Quinnen hasn’t reached the level of a player like Suh, and Suh played on how many different teams? There’s not many DT’s that are truly worth a massive contract and it handcuffs a team in other places. Personally I would trade Q before his contract is up, you can draft his replacement and keep the position cheap. Becton is a goner. Even if he plays well next year he’ll want a lot of money and we don’t want to be in the same position we’ve been with him, only now we’re on the hook for big money. Vera-Tucker and Sauce are must sign players. Both are clear cut stars. G Wilson’s stats dropped as soon as Zach came back. I noticed G Wilson lines up left side alot and Zach never looks that way. He has the skills to be a stud but, unless Zach progresses, I don’t see him putting up gaudy numbers that will break the bank to re-sign him. Jermaine looks great but he’s got a long way to go before he can be considered a re-signing issue. Anyway, the basic answer to this problem is to keep drafting extremely well so you have the cheaper players ready to replace the expensive ones. So far JD has one stellar draft, one awful draft, and one mostly awful draft. To his credit each draft has gotten better so I’m hopeful.
No, I think 2020 was awful. 2021 was mostly awful. It hinges on ZW becoming a franchise QB. E Moore is a nice player but he’s not the world beater everyone claimed he would be. The rest are all role players at best. If ZW busts the E Moore is the only player from that draft with potential to be a long term starter. Edit: I forgot to include AVT as part of 2021 draft. Clearly 2021 wasn’t all awful.
