If the Jets were to hire Payton they need to make him the man. Let him hire a caddy GM. Don't soft-pressure him to take the current GM or scouting staff. The Jets (again) are in need of a total culture change and applying conditions to the guy you bring in to do that is the first and fastest way to flunk the culture change process.
Woody would need to give him equity for that to happen, or write the largest check any coach has ever received.
How many times? But then again there was that other poster talking about money, it is all they are interested in so maybe we should just offer him everything, he won't say no to the Jets then.
there is no way he would come here. if he were available - other teams would be after him, but lets say he would like about it. He would want FULL control, meaning Joe D is out. He would need to think highly of Zack to think he can win games now.
If Dallas over achieves without Dak maybe they will hold onto McCarthy one more year. If Dallas is out and Payton wants to come back then the Jets would have as good of a chance as any other team out there. Provided of course that the Johnsons move on from JD & Saleh and make a real run at Payton which I find to be highly doubtful at this point.
Some people think money buys everything. Throw enough money and damn the rest. That's not the case. There is something called the value of your reputation, your pride in performance, maintaining a winning legacy, for the record books and history. Best talent wants to take on best in class organizations. A man at the end of a stellar career will not go to a franchise with a horrible track record, probably requiring years to turn around, especially in acity where patience is measured in days. That has not happened, and it will probably not happen. . Not to mention that there is no way in hell a change is made over this year or even next.
If you go after Payton it means you're also canning Douglas, which also means we're going to start all over again from scratch, despite the fact that Douglas has assembled the most young talent we've seen in decades. No, he hasn't been perfect, and not anticipating the failure of Becton is a huge black mark against him, but he's done a better job than anyone since Parcells for sure. But you want to get rid of him and start all over? Not me. I'm way too old. Have fun with that.
so you think world class performers at their jobs and careers only take lay up offerings for new endeavors? My life experiences have shown very mush the opposite for what its worth. I believe Bill Parcells came here after a 1-15 season?
Nope, you value the strength of the leadership and organization you are going into. Poor leadership or ownership does not breed success.
Parcells took the Jets job because he got a record-breaking contract and full control of the football operation. Leon Hess made a very personal appeal alongside the offer. He had pancreatic cancer and had been given 2-3 years to live. That was Parcells window to win a Super Bowl and if Vinny's achilles had not popped I think he would have done it.
THE JETS NEED A CULTURE CHANGE AND IT STARTS WITH THE FANS!!! FIRE A COACH WHO DOESN'T ACT LIKE A COACH AND A FAN WHO DIESNT ACT LIKE A FAN
The fans should be booing nonstop by now. It been a decade+ without sniffing the playoffs and two really terrible years back to back. The fans who just sit there through all the losing are the ones enabling the Johnson's at this point.
