Are we going to keep this clown on the roster simply because we drafted him? He’s been one of the worst punters in the league since we drafted him. When he went down, the retiree that we signed off the street was exponentially better. What the fuck are we doing? Sign a new punter every week until we find one that punts in 46 yards a pop with no shit ass shanks.
JD holds on to his failed 2020 draft too hard. He kicked ass this last draft and had improved in the one before. He needs to let it go.
Its not the most important problem/issue the Jets face but it may be the most mystifying to me. This guy came into the league and started his career looking like the 2nd coming that played NFL punter on the side. Then he got injured somewhere along the line there and missed a few games and its been nothing but a slow rolling disaster ever since he came back. wtf happened? I'm all for being patient but sheezus. And if he really is that shot how has management not determined that and done something about it yet? The whole thing is just effed.
Never been the same since that injury. For him to audible that side spin punt was unreal. Kick the ball the same away he should be ashamed
Whut? That’s not true. He started all 16 games and he was awful his rookie year. There is no magical injury that ruined in. He’s sucked since the start. https://www.nfl.com/stats/player-stats/category/punts/2020/reg/all/puntingaverageyards/desc
I thought we were all on board his first year. I remember him making some crazy tackle, and one punt where he pinned the other team with a dead spin punt that rolled backwards and we were debating in the game thread if that was a lucky fluke or if he was really that good etc etc. Then after he got back off the IR (last year) it seemed like the magic had just evaporated. I was obviously disappointed with what I saw out of him today.
Morstead's with the Dolphins. . Matt Ammendola was pressed into service as a punter due to injury but I believe he was a placekicker in college (Okla. St.).
Shitty kicker Matt actually punted better than Mann. Morstead was way better than Mann for us, and we released him. Same point as I had in the other thread about the kicker: we actually had a good punter on the roster in Morstead and let him go in favor of a shitty one. How many years does it take to get a competent punter?
We did that for the kicker last year. Finally found that one that was good in Pinero, then let him go for a shit one we have now.
Tried out 4 punters today and signed the only guy who might be worse than Mann??? Signed to the PS for the record.
Oh I'm aware! I just don't get the decision making here. No one saw this coming until week 1 of the regular season??
Mann may have punted better in practice, but decision making on kicking/punting is puzzling. The things is, for a kicker a lot of it is mental. Just because in practice someone did slightly better, doesn't mean the guy is better in real games. Yes there is pressure in kicking competition when you compete for a job, but there a lot more pressure when you are doing this with fans watching, in loud stadium, people watching on TV, your friends, family, etc... And you are also playing for your job as well. If two guys are similar in practice kicks/punts, even if one is slightly better, you need to pick one who did better in real games. That's how we lost guys like Morstead and Pineiro. Morstead was old, but he was kicking amazing last year. Pineiro was young and hasn't missed one FG. We actually had both kicking positions solved but instead picked both guys (one young one old) with inferior results in actual games. And now back to square one on kicking front.
Unreal we can’t even have a decent punter lol. Then we the guys out and go for this one out of all of them!
