Lol. Believe me brother, I have and understand some of the criticisms. But again, I'm not going to pretend I'm smarter than any of the professionals who make those decisions and denounce my fandom over this roster spot.
From what I read, he needs to build needed strength to be able to shed blocks readily, that was the knock on him, but ideal body, speed and position tackling smarts.
I was kind of hoping he would be picked up but I think he saw a better chance to play with Philly. Good for him. I hope he does really well there.
Good post...good analysis. Too many DL, not enough OT. Curry AND Shepard...give me a break. .Pinnock is much better than Davis, but I never thought Parks or Riley were anything other than journeyman safeties who might play well in the preseason. Guidry and Pinnock IMO were the two guys we cut who we should have kept.
Ashtyn Davis lead the team in both INTs and FF last season. Part of me thinks that's the reason the Jets kept him around. The Jets historically do not force many turnovers, so maybe their banking on him to develop in run support and tackling while continuing to force turnovers. Thats the only thing I can really think of for keeping him around. He was a very frustrating player to watch.
Didn't realize the Practice Squad was 16 deep. Glad to see many of the names I'd hoped for and nobody glaring missing. Maybe Tevin Coleman for depth? I saw Calvin Jackson was supposed to be added so presume they'll get him back too
Agree that is probably why they are keeping him, even though most on this board think it unwise. Hoping that a 3rd year NFL safety can suddenly improve/develop run support and tackling is a tall order though. I'm no expert, but is looks to me that on a running play Davis just lacks the desire to hit somebody hard--reminds me of Revis on his second contract with the jets. Davis is more concerned with trying to strip the ball than stick his head in someone's chest.
Well I like the guys they brought back to the practice squad so that’s good bummer we lost a guy like pinnock just to keep Davis If they wanted Davis that bad they should’ve still kept pinnock and but one of our 200 DL that we kept…could easily do without Curry who’s always hurt or Sheppeed whois just a body still need OT depth
they may think it's easier to teach him angles than to teach another prospect to be fast i see it as consistent with last years themes and this years of priortizing speed (not saying i like davis just to be clear)
