not from the tape I’ve watched and he’s a converted WR so I don’t think playing small amounts of time at WR is a stretch he’s always been bigger
For a guy his size and weight, he moves pretty good. Looks like he'd be a load to bring down once he's at full speed. He's 6'-5" playing at 245lbs and still fast enough to get open. I see him as a hybrid TE/WR to be used occasionally by LeFleur as a 2nd or 3rd option for ZW or whomever is behind center. Cager also runs good routes and has good hands so perhaps he doesn't have to be super fast.
This was from last year What are the salaries of NFL practice squad players? It’s not completely cut and dry. There are levels to being a practice squad player. Players with less than two accrued seasons will make $9,200/week on their team’s practice squad. However, players with more than two seasons of service time will make $14,000/week on an NFL practice squad. That is not an insignificant chunk of change. However, many people believe NFL players make far more than they do in general. Next season, practice squad salaries will bump to $11,500 and $15,400, respectively. But wait, there’s more! Starting in 2022, players with more than two seasons of service time can make a salary of up to $19,900/week on an NFL practice squad. If a player from the practice squad is called up to the active roster, they’ll receive a proration of the league minimum salary for that game. Players with no accrued seasons would make $36,000 for the game they’re called up for. One season nets a player $43,000 for the game, and with two years, a player makes $47,000.
I would keep Cager. He was really good in college and had a bunch of injuries to start his NFL career. I think the move to TE was brilliant and he might just have found his niche. I also think he could flourish in this offense. He's inexpensive and could be a match up nightmare. He might not make it through waivers if he's cut Tuesday. If the Jets decide to go with 5 wrs and 3 rbs, then 4 TEs is not out the question
The dude is fighting for his NFL career, so Idk, if he's worth keeping, but, it kind of reminds me of Jeff "Cumbersome". We kept him around and he never panned out. I don't even remember what position he played in college. .......they're always exceptions.
He was wide open anyone would look fast. At the combine, he had no forty times Must have been pedestrian.
Cumberland was always just a big, slow doofus that never really improved. Cager has some intriguing physical tools and he actually appears to be developing, so I would understand if they wanted to try keeping him around to try turning him into something.
Perhaps the reason why Cager was so wide open TWICE was he has deceptive speed and runs good routes??
i'm pretty sure it's the minimum but they can pay more. IIRC we paid webb a lot to keep him on our PS
