Guys I'd like to see the Jets keep based on preseason. Bradlee Anae - always seemed to get DL penetration on passing plays. Lawrence Cager - It's always nice to have a 6'5" receiver with speed. Irwin Charles - Same as above only 6'4". Bryce Huff - also a guy who got some DL penetration. Calvin Jackson Jr.- He's got chops as a receiver. Zonovan Knight - He's the kind of back you need on short yardage, can move a pile, but can do other things as well. Denzel Mims - He showed he has super star potential. Jeff Smith - Had a solid preseason. Chris Streveler - What can you say? The guy stole the whole preseason. Rachad Wildgoose - The name alone should be enough. Kenny Yaboah - The guy continues to improve. Jabari Zuniga - Another guy who was getting DL penetration. Honorable mention: Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood. IMO these two converted safeties are too light to play LB in the NFL, but they had a decent preseason playing on a DL that had trouble stopping the run. I'll reserve judgement.
Flacco left because he didn't want to be a mentor/backup and thought of himself as a viable starter. Flacco came back because of the cash JD gave him to be a backup/mentor. Fast forward and now Flacco is in a place he's already stated he didn't want to be in knowing his starts will be over when ZW returns so, he goes thru the motions and does enough to keep his job. What's the new terminology for job apathy? "Quiet quitting" I think it is.
Yeah I like a lot of those guys as well but we can’t keep all of them. It’s a good sign that our depth has improved at most positions, though ironically while JD keeps talking about the trenches I think our OL depth is god awful. We have no quality tackle backups at all. I hated relying on Becton, I think most on this board were wary of it, and sure enough he didn’t even make it past training camp. And we have no viable depth. I think the other feeling I get is that while we’ve improved our depth, I’m still not sure how good our starters are really. I see potential in Moore, GW, Breece Hall and Carter, I like our TE group, so I think our offensive skill players are much improved and should be good enough to compete if we get good QB play, but the OL scares me in terms of depth and while I think we should be decent on OL once they gel, we have a tough opening slate. And then of course it will all come down to QB play, and I’m not as high on Zach as many others are, so I’ll reserve judgment until I see him this year with a good group of skill guys…but if he looks like he did last year, then I think we need to go get a QB. on D I think our secondary should be better…I’m still concerned about our linebacker group and our continued inability to stop the running game, the screens, and the dump offs or short passes to TEs. I think we are assembling a good stable of outside pass rushers but we’ll see…we need to get home and close those sacks and we still don’t have that double digit sack guy so we’re going to rotate the masses and hope that works. Still, a TJ Watt or Myles Garrett or Joey or Nick Bosa type real edge threat that he offense has to game plan for is what we really need and we still don’t have that…haven’t had it since the John Abraham days. so to me, if we hit 7 or 8 wins I think that’s about our ceiling…. hard to see how we do better than that
That says it all. I think the OL is good enough. We saw yesterday that all 3 QBs were able to operate effectively behind the OL.
What a gloomy bunch. All I know is that the Jets are undefeated and tied for first in the division. I refuse to be doom and gloom before the first game. After the First game no promises.
I'll start with gloom and work my way up to doom. Seriously, I'm always optimistic at the start of a season. There are so many factors that go into winning. I've posted before that if the Jets get good QB play, good coaching, and few injuries, they can win with the roster they have. But good QB play is paramount.
I used to go out on a limb for wind and losses Now it’s a different sobering take At first thought last Spring given the Talent infusion I was demanding this Coaching and Zach produce 8 wins for us Now I just see 17 losses and if we Win a game or two it’s making history as my confidence (till proven otherwise ) is on permahold with this screwy Franchise The miracle may happen if the D the new talent and the possibility of a different QB other than our expected hero ZW comes along to save the day
I get that but to be fair, we’re only undefeated because our 3rd and 4th team ears are better than the Eagles, Falcons and GiantS scrubs…when it was first and second teasers we lost every game…it was Streveler who had to come from behindIn every game… which is why I’m kind of like ok so our depth has improved but our frontline starters are yet to be proven not gonna take too much away from preseason games so not to get too worked up over it, but it sure would’ve been nice to see our starters put up 20 points …
Our team is good enough to beat any team in the NFL. But it's the grueling 17 game season the demands consistency, and that's where we'll struggle. We'll beat a good Ravens type team one week, only to lose to a schmuck team the next. Being good week in and week out is very difficult. But like the rest of the board, if our team stays healthy (du) and Zack plays decent and LeFleur calls decent game plans, then we can be pretty good.
Like I posted the the week 1 thread, our problem is we have so many unproven players we don't know how good or bad we are.
He sounds very expert I have to say ...it's an entertaining show while I am driving But he's certainly not Nostradamus
unfortunately no…and I’m not sure Zach can either…I think our skill players have improved, our depth has improved at most spots (OL and LB still pitiful), but I’m not sure we have a legit QB yet…this will be the year for Zach to show he can be the guy
And if he's not, we'll just waste another high DP on the next FQB.. So we have Zach, SloJo and BengalGame as our '22 QB's. Couldn't be in better hands..
I'm sure he's more concerned with the opinions coming from SiriusXM, CBS, Showtime and the NFL because their money talks to him.
