Who is he competing against to start in Baltimore?

they took a right tackle in the 4th round of the draft in addition to adding Moses, along with incumbent Ja'Waun James. When Ronnie Stanley comes back they will have a logjam at the tackle position

Interesting. Now could you break it all down into ZW-1, NZW and ZW-2 periods with those standing for Wilson before injury, No Wilson and Wilson after injury? Please also include time to release, passing yards and total yards in each category. The answer must be in there somewhere. Finding it may require even deeper diving.

Fuuuuuuck. Duane is not here yet and Fant is not fully heathy. Didn't take long for Zach to get hurt on a pressure from Max's side. We are fucked.

If you think the odds of/to him starting in Baltimore vs NYJ were the same, let’s just agree to disagree.

Teams are putting their top rushers on the right?!?

I wonder if other teams are going to start putting their top 10 tackle picks on the right and start paying the best at the position chef money aka 17mm/year.

For those incessantly whining about Morgan Moses and his cap number…

Thanks for posting. That looks like what will be a 1 year deal for 9 million with 5.3 million moved to next years cap. Unless of course he plays really well.

2 years 11 million per year. Douglas was late addressing this position. Even if Becton was healthy it was a weak spot. Now Fant is at RT and the new guy is the LT. The rookie they drafted from Florida Mitchell probably won't make the team.

Rest assured Mitchell will make the team. He was picked to develop and grow this year, and he is doing just that.

JD did some pretty cool machinations here. He added 3 void years to the contract to spread the CAP. 9 mil is guaranteed but, there is a roster bonus of 1 mil. Basically if Duane makes it to the final roster, he will get paid exactly 10 mil this year. 8 he already got, 1 mil roster bonus (paid presumably when the year starts) and 1 mil base salary. This is from sportrac, which has the contract info after it is submitted to NFLPA. There may be another 1 mil incentive, but it appears to be unlikely to reach, so it currently does not count against the CAP, so essentially it is a one year 10 mil dollar deal.

If we want to pick up his option for next year 2024, we need to pony up another 10 mil, this time 9 mil base and another 1 mil roster bonus. Of course we can waive him too, in which case he will count against the CAP about 1.5 mil for each of next 4 years. There is also a possibility if we want to keep him, to reduce his base next year. I doubt JD would want 11.5 dollar CAP hit to keep him unless he makes Pro Bowl again. Or similar manipulation can be done next year if needed to further spread the CAP.

For now the best way to think about this is that it is a one year 10 mil dollar deal.

I’m not the expert on cap hits, but I thought if we waive him next year, then don’t all bonuses paid up front accelerate into that year if waived before June 1st and the next two years if waived after June 1st? That is,mi didn’t think it rolled for the next 4 years (contract life).

I could be wrong, but otherwise why wouldn’t everyone just sign 10 year deals and waive players after two years and let the cap hit roll over the ten years?

You are right, if we don't resign him, bonuses will accelerate. JD will probably restructure him next year if he is still decent or we take 6 mil dead CAP next season. Then restructure someone else if we need to make more CAP :)

I don't think JD thinks that far ahead. He's always scrambling for today and then the things that happen down the road are unfortunate accidents.

How many vet OL has he signed who are no longer with the team and were replaced by vets more expensive when they left?

It's his MO. Sign for today and scramble tomorrow. It will never be a successful strategy on a last place team.

All it's good for is selling tickets in September and October. Then you get the half empty stadium in November and beyond because the Jets continue to be laughing stocks.
