Things that make you go, hmm... I pretty much don't do the comparison thing... all I know is that when our season was long gone and we were still winless... i went looing for alternatives to Lawrence and Fields and found Zach and followed him through the rest of that season. Same with Trey. Once the draft came round my position was that choosing either Fields or Zach at 2 or trading down and going with Trey were all viable options for a team needing a QB. I leaned a little toward Zach cos of the darkhorse angle. But but no means did I think he was a slam dunk, I just liked that his arm was so lively and he had some wheels as well. Of course when Fileds went bananas vs Clemson I was also mightily impressed.
I realize it's easy for fans to go "so what...means nothing...show me the wins". But nods like this from 85 and others are FAR better than hearing "Zack will always struggle, in my opinion he is a bust". So I'll take it and enjoy it. Thanks, Ocho. I appreciate the good vibes. Plus you took it like a man when Revis shut you down and kicked your team out of the playoffs!
Sure. We all see the glimpses. Here's the thing. Mahomes first "redshirt" season he was 22 years old. Same as Zachs first season. The next year Patty threw for 5k and 50 Tds. Let's pump the brakes Chad.
cos I mentioned it... i wentback and watched the game vs Celmson for Fields and RUCKERT really was impressive bring the ruckus!!!
Mahomes also entered into a great situation. He joined an established, talented offense that had already gelled before he became the starter. The Jets have a lot of talent, but very little experience playing together and a lot of inexperienced players. It's not bad, but it's not great (yet) either.
Sure. But 5k yards 50 tds 12 ints is what makes Mahomes special. Of course that team was talented. But those numbers are what SEPARATES Mahomes from almost everyone else. People see the side arm and roll outs and arm strength and say PAT MAHOMES. There is so much more to playing the positing at an elite level than that. I would be happy with 3k yards 20 tds and 18 ints this season.
He'd be about the worst QB in the league with those numbers. You'd really be happy with that? This team HAS to start raising the bar.
IMHO, the Jet organization has ruined several young QB's, not because the QB's did not posess talent enough to succeed, but because of hideously piss poor coaching. Every QB the Jets have drafted failed because they failed to coach them up properly. ZW has the talent and chance to break this losing srteak but it fully depends on this CS and their ability to teach him the NFL game the right way. We saw his raw'ness last season at the start, however, after his injury, he came back and played nearly flawless football. He has to start this new season under control and use the players we have smartly. We have the offensive talent finally, so that is not an excuse. We shall see.
think thaty why Chad sorta rolled it back a bit NOT SAYING HE's PM... PM-ish but, in the end..why use the name, right?
How can this be your stance after seeing how awful Darnold still was in Carolina? We don't ruin anyone, we just draft shitty players.
Ocho wasn't right about himself, so I don't care much what he says about our QB. But any nice things in the media about Zach are fine with me.
While he was nearly flawless in the sense of not throwing interceptions, he accomplished that by checking down so much his yards per attempt was lower than 2006 Pennington. He was still a bottom-tier QB, just a different kind of bottom-tier QB.
Are you suggesting the WR who averaged over 1k yards/yr over a 10 year span wasn’t right about his self valuation?
Checking down doesn't make you a bad QB if your primary receivers are not open; to the contrary, that makes you a good QB. But feel free to point us to a long list of plays in the last five games in which Zach had a receiver wide open but checked down instead. I haven't seen anyone break down the film that way, but I'm willing to be convinced if you can show us the goods.
