I wonder if people understand how practice works? Camp is a grind and their will be up and downs. As the coaches state we will not know how much Zach has improved until the bullets are live. As far as the dirt ball from what I read he was under heavy pressure. People just need to relax until it is time to panic.
One theory is that until the pads are on and they’re going full force, you won’t hear too much about defensive linemen. You hear more about guys touching the football.
As others have said he has had a couple sacks. Robbie Sabo gave a short review on the Jake Asman show yesterday and he said JJ is not there yet and is still adjusting. I have read that he is pretty raw and he is expected to be good against the run but will take time to develop as a pass rusher. The expectations I have seen since the draft seem to be that he is somewhat of a developmental project at least in terms of pass rush and refining his moves. As Saleh said he has the power to bull rush that you can't coach but he will need to learn and refine his other pass rush moves. Unrelated to JJ, Robbie Sabo is worth listening to and that Asman show yesterday gives him a lot of airtime with some good nuggets. Definately worth a listen. Here is the link. Lots of really great stuff with Sabo in this podcast from DL, LBs, safeties, Zach's development, OL, Lawson and so on.
It’s possible that it’s coach-speak. It’s also possible that they truly believe what they’re saying. Without being either Saleh or MLF, it’s impossible for us to know for sure. Teammates have also spoken about the difference between Zach in year 1 and now this offseason. I believe McGovern was quoted in an article not long ago talking about how much more comfortable Zach is in the huddle now. However, you’re absolutely correct, all these words are exactly that, words, and words are wind. Zach will have to show he has improved on the field. We’ll find out soon enough if everyone’s been blowing smoke all off-season or if Zach really has taken a step forward.
I thought the words were coach speak after seeing what was written on Twitter. When you actually watch the press conference (especially MLF) I came away with an entirely different opinion.
The guy believes in "positive vibes only" (his words) so anything he says about a player is going to be positive and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt by the fans & media
Potentially. After Breece and MC, I think it’s sort of a toss up who will be RB3 and then do they carry a 4th? He’s not a roster lock IMO but he’s def got a shot.
IMO if he looks like he did last year, then certainly. It will be an interesting battle between Coleman, Ty Johnson, Zonovan Knight and even La'Mical Perine for the 3rd an 4th spots. Given the LaFleur offense we know, one could assume they'd keep 4 RBs on the roster, but there's a huge gap between Breece Hall & Michael Carter and the remaining backs and I would wonder if they'll lean more on those two than a committee given how much better those two are than the rest. Maybe they only keep 3 RBs on the active roster and keep Johnson or Knight on the PS.
I think he is our third best RB but I could see the coaches going with someone else due to the injury history.
