They can't get rid of the halftime show. It brings in literally half the audience. There was a time, along about 1990, when the Super Bowl was an event that drove the women out of the house to go shopping on a Sunday night. Now with the halftime show the women are putting up with all the prancing around in skintight costumes with pads so they can watch all the other prancing around in skintight costumes during the halftime show. The moment the transition occurred was probably Michael Jackson's halftime show in 1993.. That's the first time I remember the women being more excited about the halftime show than the men were about the game itself.
I heard that the Bengals have given the show mixed reviews. Bengals kicker Evan McPherson watching halftime show 'sore subject' (cincinnati.com)
