During an episode of the ‘Flight 2022’ docu-series the team produced, Uzomah said he was “happy about the things [the Jets] told me and how they’re going to utilize me personally. Also, as a team, the chemistry looks like it is there and with the pieces we got, the sky is the limit.” The Jets are gaining respectability around the league. Players want to play for Saleh, & the Jets organization.
I also think Uzo is looking at beyond football career. He looks like a guy who can do media once he is done playing. But yeah he probably along with Conk and Ruckert are gonna see tons of action
Uzomah is 29 and making $15M guaranteed over the 3 year deal. He is the single most likely person to be the free agent the Jets sign every year that then misses most of the season. 29 year old free agent Tightend who is average at best. Only the Jets.
He doesn’t suck but he’s not a superstar. The contract is fine dude. He got an average contract for an average player that also brings locker room intangibles at a position that’s been awful for us for over a decade. It’s a solid signing.
Yes, but it seems somebody stole Brad's sweets again. It must be so hard to be a fan with no joy or hope
Right. You don't need superstars at every position, but you do need competence at most of them. The signings of free agent tight ends is similar to what the Pats did last year, one of them had a good year receiving, the other one didn't. Ron
Threefold improvement at solid value for our TEs. Well done. Let’s develop our superstars thru the draft. Fill immediate holes with solid vets at fair value. Not the opposite, where we pay thru the nose for a Super star on a team which has a long way to go.
Only the Jets… and the defending AFC champs who wanted him back at the same price or more. Who finds the energy to whine about a TE making $15 mil guaranteed over a three year deal?
It's a 2 year deal essentially. I would be shocked if the Jets pick up the last year option at ~$9.5 mill for a then 31 year old rotational tight end Cincinnati got 7 years of wear & tear outta him for peanuts. Here he was up for his 1st real pay day and the Jets did the Cincinnati a favor. -- Its like if someone gave $8 million a year to Chris Baker after he left our Jets. Average TE, good in the locker room but, yeah...
He was brought in to bring competence to a position which we haven't had much of for many years. Ruckert could be the long term answer, but shouldn't be counted on this year.
I know right? A competent tight end, who is a known locker room leader, and has SB experience, with Conklin and a rookie behind him. I mean who needs experience on the depth chart and 3 overall tight ends to run 12 personnel when injuries strike. Only the Jets huh?
He's 29 years old and he has caught more than 27 passes twice in his career. This signing was like getting a 65 year old chauffeur to drive for you despite the fact that he has only driven for a decade. I mean, yeah it is safe maybe for a year but damn if the Jets haven't just spent millions of dollars again for a guy who really isn't going to help them much now and is no part of the future. We do this like clockwork. It's like there is a gremlin somewhere that has the keys to Woody's safe and he just keeps stealing from him over and over again.
