I just thought this was a very interesting way to look at Mangini's success versus Weis and Crennel's lack of success.

This is soo true on a lot of different levels. Mangini is thinking about the future of this team not the future of his job and $. Crennel and Weis both looked elsewhere. Crennel is trying to patch together a team to keep his job year after year. That mentality will never work. Mangini inserted his program so they would have to wait him out for atleast 4 years. Good enough for him and Mike T. that it worked out just how they had planned.

One year later Mike T. and Mangini look like geniuses and look to have a very bright future with this team. Only a complete Kotite meltdown can ruin this.

I think Crennel is going to turn the Browns around. He has had bad luck there but, in a year or two, he's going to have them competing at a high level.

The biggest difference between Weis, Crennel and Mangini is that one of them is still quite young and has had immediate success.

The dominant coaches always get a shot at the top job early. Some of them fumble it, like Belichik did in Cleveland, but almost all of them get that shot.

Weis and Crennel were both well past the point that you could call them a bright young star when they got their first real chance to command a team.

That's what separates Mangini from them.

There's a lot to be said about getting the chance to be your own man early enough to have many of your decisions come from the heart and not the mind. Only a 35 year old coach would have had the balls to bring Teddy Atlas on the scene in such a big way and try to connect to the young men who play for him the way his dad tried to connect to him 20 years ago.

I think the same could be said for Charlie Weis. Notre Dame was in a bad way when he go there. Hes getting some good players and definatly looking at the future of the team. They will never be what they once were, but they will be top 10 for a long time coming...

They say differently. Both credit BB for teaching them a lot and getting them where they are today. Neither was a coordinator under Parcells and both chose to work under BB instead of Parcells. Saban, Mangini, Ferentz, Schwartz, Savage, Ryan and Hill might be more obvious apprentices, but those two make no bones about it - they're more BB than Tuna.

Crenell goes back to working under Parcells and BB when Ray Perkins was the Giants HC. Parcells retired and that's why the staff left it was a choice between Groh and BB. Weiss was our OC in 98.

Every year it becomes more clear that Parcells is nothing without Belichick. BB was the genius behind those Giant's defenses. Parcells is just a loud front man.

Weis hates Parcells. And Crennel followed BB as well.

I said this in another thread. I think Mangini is doing the best job following the BB blueprint. It was weird watching the Jets beat the Pats last time. It was like watching the Pats win games over the last 5 years. Weird.

Weiss hates Parcells because Parcells made him our OC in 98 and than very publicly took the play calling away from him.

He also testified on Belichick's behalf against Parcells.

The fact is that BB and Parcells are both really good HC and both really unethical manipulators when it comes to honoring their word and contracts. Whether Weiss supported BB or not the fact is BB let him self be used as a tool in bringing Parcells to the Jets and at best is nothing but a worm in the way he both came and left. I wouldn't mind either guy coaching my team but as a charachter refrence BB and Parcells are both right around the same place on the food chain.
