The Jets need not go the Redskins route just because they will have up to $28,000,000 to spend in cap dollars.
I could see maybe one big splash signing, but making multiple big moves usually doesn't work out.

Thomas will command a significant amount of money and he will be 30 next year. That combination is dicey.

They would be better off finding some 25-year old free agent who has been stuck behind a top player.

They should look at midlevel free agents. Guys like Baltimore fullback Ovie Mughelli.

    Fa

    1) Nate Clements

I dont care what it costs, him and dyson (not shut down but fast) give us the flexibility to blitz and lead 2 guys on an island (key in a 3-4 esp.)

    2) Adalious Thomas

Yes he is 30 and we WILL overspend, but we actually can for once. He will bring leadership, great compliment to thomas, and will cause offenses to overthink because of his versatility

    3) Erich Steinbach

KEY to the o line. I think we cut kendall this offseason and he takes over. Brick, Eric, Mangold = best left side in the NFL. Throw in our draft picks thi year and we have one of the best young olines in the league

    POSSIBILITIES:

Michael turner: would trade the 2nd in a SECOND. I live in san diego. THIS GUY IS A STAR. Simply does not go down after the first hit . Looks like Barlow, plays like LT

Portis: Id throw our #2 at him as well. If we get above we will have A LOT of flexibility

    If not

Draft: Id go after the best RT and RG in the draft and then RB if we get above. O LINE is KEY in MHO. No matter what. I have faith in our regime for once and think we have a VERY bright future!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to trade a #2 for Michael Turner (not happening), a #2 for Clinton Portis (not worth it), sign Eric Steinbach to play OG, and then proceed to draft a right tackle, right guard, and a running back?

You may as well just burn down Hofstra.

I really think RT is something we have to upgrade this offseason. But I really want Lance Briggs wearing green and white sooner or later.

I think they should do exactly what they did last year. Do not change a thing.

    Free Agency:

Bring in complimentary players. Find good versatile players that work within the system. Yes find players like Dyson, young and talented but also cheap enough. They are out there.

Do not open the vault for 29-30 y/o players that while excellent/great, are much closer to the downside of their career. This makes no sense at all. I personally feel this FO will not do this. They will do it similarly to NE and go the above route.

Plus make sure that our young players never get to the FA market ala Philly. This would create a best of both worlds scenario in that they get FA's that are great fits cheap and retain our young talent. This is a much more intelligent cost effective way to build and maintain a team.

    Draft;

Keep bringing in smart coachable Football players with intangibles and not the combine workout warriors. I really think it a breath of fresh air the way our draft worked out last year. If this is the FO's blue print we are going to be one happy fan base for years to come. The only bitch I can find with last years draft was round 3. Other than that it was outstanding. Also the way the coaches improved the play of the young players was outstanding. I have never seen a staff seemingly have almost every young player continually improve as the year progressed, it was magnificent.

Also I want to know why the f*ck I am responding to this when the season is still going on......................... :drunk:

Try and keep in mind that Samuel's stats are not indicative of the kind of cb he is. The Pats front 7 generates a lot of pressure on the QB which has inflated his stats a little. He also has a tendancy to gamble at the wrong times.
I live in NE, and have seen most of their games

He is still a top 10 CB in the NFL and is 25. He is still learning how to play the position and Mangini was his DB coach. I think if we sign any top level FA's it will be him because he knows the system had has great talent. Dyson, Samuel, Miller, and Coleman would give us the fastest CB unit in the NFL.

Are there any key needs that can be filled by FA's ?? Any killer OL or DL people free this year?

Maybe we should trade future draft picks down the line for extra picks this year if we have all this cap room ?

Mortgage the future, you say? Yes, that's always a recipe for success.

I'd love to get Michael Turner from San Diego. Not only is he a complete RB and a good compliment to Leon, he's a great returner

You;d be giving up a 1st rounder for him at least, unless you work a trade.

id love to see us make a run at steinbach. The big defensive players (clements, thomas, briggs) are all very good, but will eat up much of the space we have left.

my ideal jets offseason would include the following

    re-sign rhodes and cotchery

make a run at steinbach and some other good fit FA's like last year

Draft a RT, pass rusing LB or DE and a NT with our first 3 picks. maybe pluck another gem out of the middle or late rounds

Steinbach or a RT, Terdel Sands(move Drob to DE), and Samuel in FA Would be sick. Woodley, a OLinemen, and a big WR or RB first day would make our team complete IMO but its time to kick the Pats asses so we will have to wait and see.

Teams don't exchange draft picks ahead of time. If a situation arises on draft day where they want to trade up for a player, then you'll see draft picks traded.

Guys lets not get crazy we need to stick to our blue print. Extend our current players( COtchery, Hobson, and so on). Sign Sands and move Drob to DE. Try to make a trade for Turner for our second if it can be done.
