Per Rich- Looking to add veteran insurance, the Jets are meeting with free-agent OT Riley Reiff, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Reiff, 33, a 2012 first-round pick of the Lions, started 12 games for the Bengals last season. He's a career starter, but isn't what he used to be. He had some bad games last season and missed nine games, including their Super Bowl run. With Mekhi Becton returning from knee surgery, the Jets could be concerned about their OT depth. If it's not Reiff, I think we will see the Jets add another Vet OT to add some depth. This indicates the Jets have little faith in Becton to stay healthy and motivated.
There's our new Morgan Moses! It's not exactly an endorsement of Becton. However, JD values OL depth too so IMO it's not necessarily an indictment of him either. I'm optimistic about Max Mitchell's outlook though you can't bank on a 4th round rookie necessarily. Would be all for this signing
In all fairness this story had been talked about all day in the OTA thread and the OP probably should have paid attention before posting. But, like you said that this is the internet and people don't think much before posting and like Cman said it is the off-season and there are very few threads going on. It does not add much to thread spam. But, it is always a good idea to check before posting to see if whatever story one is posting is already being talked about in another thread.
Why did you feel the need to post on it then broski? A) It's the offseason B) This is NYJ news C) You are on a NYJ Site
So lets start a discussion on Swing tackles then? Who do you want the Jets to target? Are you happy with EDOGA or Max Mitchell or McDermott as the primary backups? I think Reiff would be an upgrade as long as he's not expected to start more than a few games. Solid depth and vert leadership.
Where is it meant to go? I don't see a general chat thread? Alternatively, you don't have to open a thread if you don't like its title, it isn't compulsory to do so.
Contact made on a back up tackle. Jets eagerly await the return of Becton at mandatory camp to get a idea if he's fit. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Well, let's not go that far. Bengals OLine was total shit, and he was part of the problem. Moses is a legit starter in the League, and it was just luck we got him last year, and we really needed him too - started for us all season and did well. If Reiff has to start, it's not the same as Moses doing that. With that said, I agree that we need someone aside from Max as a back-up tackle. Both Fant and Becton sustained serious injuries last year. Becton missed entire year, and Fant missed only a couple of games because the injury happened late in the year. But it was a serious injury for both guys, with both guys having injury history before that too, and there is a high likelihood backup T will see significant time this year. It's definitely a concern and we need depth, no question about that.
To me, the biggest unknow going into training camp by far is Becton return and ability to secure the tackle position for the season. Wilson growth is at the top of the list for this teams ability to be competitive, no doubt about that, but it takes for granted a much improved line. While Wilson has been putting in the effort, trying hard both physically and mentally the off season to be better and develop more chemistry with his receivers, with Becton, there has been a wall of silence as to where he is, his recovery status, what he has done, and how confident is the CS, if at all, that he can return to his rookie year performance and then some.
Yeah, everything feels smooth and positive on the team, except for Becton. He is the one question mark that doesn't quite feel right at the moment. Hopefully he looks good at OTA's this week and gives the team (and fans) some comfort.
Didn't want to start a new thread for sure on a sarcastic note, but now that Van Roten signed with Buffalo, sure hope not to read any remarks by Jet fans about how cleverly the Bills are at adding depth to their team in the OL and how JD screwed up by letting him go BS.
Will the Bills be doing a Bill the cheat and signing an ex-player of a rival team to pick his knowledge on their playbook?
