Points will come for Lafreniere when he’s finally on the first power play

The -5 is real too though. Part of that is because the 'Canes have an all-defense line out on Z and Kreider, leaving Lafreniere to match up against the #1 and #2 lines too often.

Leaving Z and Kreider out of the conversation who are the best linemates for Lafreniere right now? What trio with him included would put the most pressure on the 'Canes and give them the most incentive to stop shadowing Z and Kreider hard they way they have been?

Then what would the best 3rd line be to keep the pressure up?

I think Lafreniere has had a good playoff run so far considering his level of experience and age. He’s a child playing against grown men with lots of experience.

He’s got a promising future, imo. I think he’s our future captain.

    That’s a very tough question.

By itself, yes. But let's look at his complete playoff stat line, similar to the previous analysis of one of his former linemates.

    Courtesy of https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/l/lafreal01.html

    Alexis Lafreniere

    12 Games Played - 2 Goals, 3 Assists, 5 Points +/- -5, 6 Blocked Shots, 32 Hits (!!!), 7 Takeaways, 15 Giveaways.

Considering that no one here complained about an almost identical +/- from his former linemate, I ask again, what more could you have asked asked out of Alexis Lafreniere?

I believe +/- just takes into account what happens where you’re on the ice, no? So he could’ve got a -1 when he wasn’t responsible for the goal?

Next year is the make or break year for Chytil and though who shall not be named ;). Lafreniere needs to make another big step next year, I really think he’s coming into his own.

To answer Br4d’s question about the best line for Laf that isn’t Mika and Kreider, it’s gotta be that second line with Panarin and whomever the new 2C is because it wont be Strome or Copp.

From NHL.com (So it is official :) )

    Plus-Minus

A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.

There is no question he still has a great deal of seasoning to go. However, this post season cemented with me that he is on the right path. He is 8th in the team in playoff scoring which is where a third line player should be, and is actually outpacing his regular seasons scoring in the playoffs. His 32 hits show me grit and hustle on the ice.

I'm not arguing that he hasn't played well just that he has not been the Rangers most consistently good player in the playoffs.

I'm pretty sure that is Z or Fox. Maybe one of the less heralded defensemen given how physical both series have been.

    Gotcha.

I think 3 of Lafreniere’s - marks are because of Trouba’s inability to carry the puck into the zone on PP2. Malkin scored a breakaway because of Trouba and Chytil and Trouba is responsible for 2 shorties in this series.

I like what Trouba brings to this team, but it is a little surprising K’Andre isn’t the point man on pp2 given he used to be a forward.

It's a fair debate to have.

I usually hate late starts but I am working until 8pm all weekend so I will get home with a chance to see the 2nd and 3rd periods. This after randomly speeding up and slowing down to duck the overhead interference from the lines on the car radio.

Geez. Be a Giants fan then.

Jets-Mets-Islanders is the trifecta for Jets fans, no?

Not for me. I never liked the Giants. When I was a kid I liked Dallas, hence my hate for the Giants. I could never root for them.
