I'd love to see some 13 personel in the red zone...

The below tweet his is dad from 2 years ago. It's like a dream for them. Dad was a season ticket holder. The other kid must be a cousin.

Not to sure about this pick overall seeing as we signed two TE's this offseason, but added depth especially being a good blocker doesn't hurt either.

This. Lafleur has a lot of pieces to work with this year.

Is there such a thing as two backs (Hall, Carter) and three TE as a formation in the red zone? That is a lot of beef to stop.

I liked him as TE3 in this class behind mcbride and dulcich. he isn't a wow player buthe's solid as a blocker and a pass cacther. good hands. not much yac but overall a solid player and good teammate. I like the pic

I will post it when I find it but someone within the last few hours tweeted a video of Ruckert blocking on a few plays, including manhandling George Karlaftis. he’s going to take a year or two to develop as a passcatcher but he can make an immediate impact by doing these things. What I have rather had Winfrey? Yes. But I don’t dislike this at all.

On the surface, this does feel like a bit of a luxury pick after signing Uzomah and Conklin, but I would assume this mean's a lot more 1-2 and possibly even some 1-3 personnel this season.

Worth noting that besides for Miami, where Gesicki is a TE in name only, the team that used the most 1-2 personnel last year was Green Bay at 29%. Everyone talks about Shanahan's offense, but the goal is clearly more the LaFluer/Packers offense.

Connor Hughes on his podcast said the Jets love Ruckert, were shocked he was still there at 101, and think he could develop into an elite TE. But, he also said they think he needs work on his blocking technique and needs a lot of work on learning route trees. He made it sound like this year will be a redshirt year for Ruckert where he could takeover as TE1 next year. Hughes said the Jets can move on from Conklin after year 1.

I guess this is why Joe Douglas referenced Ozzie Newsome before the draft saying “what’s a luxury today could be a necessity next year”.

edit: and this is where I completely agree with that assessment. I wouldn’t agree with it at all if we were talking about taking a left tackle at four because we have guys capable of doing the job under contract and potentially for even longer if we extend them… plus we had glaring holes elsewhere. The tight end position is kind of set in stone. We have two starters who are probably not part of the long-term plan and will be gone over the next two years. I could see Conklin sticking around, but you’re using a lower value asset to acquire a future starter while also not needing a current starter.

I get the impression that the last two years the focus was on getting quantity, culture changing bodies to remake the roster. This year the focus has changed with less needs to focus on quality over quantity. Finding those players who could be special and getting the guys they really love. I think Douglas said something about the focus on quality over quantity as to why they were comfortable with 7 picks vs. 9. Part of that also is likely better communication and trust between the CS, scouts and FO as they get better at determining who truly fits this team.
