Win more games. Then he gets to gloat. He's 6-27. Not much to gloat about. His roster needs to produce more wins. That's why they play the game right?? JD needs to show us the wins. Plain and simple. The Jets need to start winning more games and it needs to start pretty damn soon.
Ain’t seen a GM work a draft this good in a long time and was on our side. He learned a lot in his Ozzie days props
It's great that people are excited and optimistic, but I'm with you. Let's tap the brakes a little bit. I think it's too early to judge anything. We won't really know if we had a good draft for quite a while. Heck, we haven't even gone to rookie mini-camps or OTAs yet. All we have right now is a bunch of ingredients sitting on the counter. Let's wait and see how the pie looks when it comes out of the oven.
Douglas can make Trades acquire Picks and as we witness hit a hit a Grand Slam Draft But don't forget he hired Saleh LaFleur and Ulbricht ...does he have the stones to Fire them?? The Scouting Department sure knows their stuff but do the Coaches?? If they can't mold Zach and this All World Talent, see more wins it's a Fireable Offense imo Douglas has to ramp up that pressure or else he is out too
We don't yet know how productive they will be, but that doesn't mean we can't judge how good of a job JD did in this draft. Whether a decision is a good decision is based on the facts and circumstances at the time you make the decision, not 20/20 hindsight. We can definitely judge this draft as an excellent job by JD. He did a great job (a) generating an enormous amount of draft capital (4 picks in the top 38); (b) identifying really good players that fit our scheme at each draft position; (c) making good trades to position us to draft well-fitting players; and (d) avoiding red flags like injury history and character issues that create an undue risk that we'll strike out on a particular player for those reasons. Not all of them will work out -- that's the nature of migrating amateur athletes into the professional ranks. But good decisions are about positioning yourself so that the odds will be in your favor. JD made excellent decisions. And yes, we can judge that today.
That is one way of looking at it, and absolutely a valid point of view. I prefer to wait and see. That's just me.
and this makes JD the GOAT GM of the NYJ's? I don't think it does.. He's more than competent. Head and shoulders above Idzik and MacCagnan but that's a pretty low bar isn't it. His team hasn't won and until it wins consistently and wins big, as judged by his peers in the league, he's not the GOAT GM. We can't judge JD on a curve here. Other GM's are graded on results. JD has to be graded the same.
LOL, fair enough. I wouldn't say you can judge his overall effectiveness as a GM until he has been here long enough to fairly see how his players come in, mature, and then perform as mature players. That takes more than 2 seasons. But you can judge this draft, and it is a helluva draft.
Then we need to table this discussion about JD being the GOAT GM for the NYJ's for a few more years. I think his drafts are much better however, we need to see results. Time will tell one way or the other about JD, RS and his CS and this roster as presently constituted.
I would be happy to table it, except it's 5:40 a.m. PST, I'm awake and bored, and the draft doesn't start for 3-1/2 hours.
I try to not get too high on the team because I do tend to be optimistic as a fan. But… my favorite prospects have been well documented at this point, and just to lay out why I’m so in love with this draft class, the Jets have now acquired: My CB1 My WR1 My ED2 (Official Max Dean Branded Favorite) My RB1 My TE1 (Official Max Dean Branded Favorite) My ED1 was Hutchinson, and my WR2 was London but I thought he was a slightly better team fit and also an “Official Max Dean Branded Favorite” It’s better than I could have even asked for. I know I’m higher on Johnson than many, and I know I’m higher on Ruckert than many, but damn I’m a happy guy this weekend.
I agree but I will say that I'm pretty excited about this draft, these guys are going to be the face of the Jets for years to come like the Dbrick/Mangold, Pennington/Ellis/Abraham draft classes were
We all are very happy if not estatic about this draft. However, until the results are in, JD is still 6-27 and certainly not the GOAT GM of the NYJ's. If we rate GMs on results? We have to rate JD on results as well.
