Given JD said we had been trying to trade up to every pick from #15 on, a little overpay for #26 is still far cheaper than JJ could have cost. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Of the picks for picks swaps, NE (21) & BAL(23), it's reasonable to question whether they wanted to slide out of the 1st & lose the 5th year option. You can also question whether BB would even consider trading with the Jets. To get to #21, we probably would have dealt the same picks, but not received a late 3rd back.
Excellent post. Normally there's a premium with a trade up (I forget the percentage), but this is a reminder of how this draft was viewed overall. As for the Jets' deal. Considering where they (and just about everyone else) had JJ valued, "overpaying" by the equivalent of a 5th rounder is well worth it.
I did the same number crunching. Amazing without the QB tax how much things stuck to chart. We "overpaid " by basically the 163 =26.2 which was cheap and we didn't have a six or seventh rounder to use instead. If we move from 38 about 10 spots we could get a 4 and 5 or a 4 this year and 2023 4. If we move back 15 or so picks, we should gain a third.
