Still a lot of really good options at safety left. It's a good draft for safety too. Check out Jaquan Brisker Jalen Pitre Bryan Cook All these guys could be starters for us. IMO.
I think they can get at least as good a RB, if not better, in the 3rd or 4th round. I'm hoping for Dean or Brisker.
Georgia Bulldogs win round one: 1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia 13. Philadelphia Eagles (from Browns via Texans): Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia 22. Green Bay Packers (from Raiders): Quay Walker, LB, Georgia 28. Green Bay Packers: Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia 32. Minnesota Vikings (from Rams via Lions): Lewis Cine, S, Georgia
Interesting. JD says all 3 players were ranked in our top 8. They were on the phone with every team starting around #15 trying to get up to take Jermaine. Totally shocked he lasted to #26.
After the 1st round and looking back and mind you I hated the sauce pick at 4, I think IF and mind you it's a big IF and more then likely luck but IF JD knew the WR run would start happening early he had to take wilson at 10. on top of that the jets were linked to london and burks but never wilson. i'm guessing they didn't want a team to trade past them for wilson IF JD knew JJ would fall and he'd be able to get great value in the mid 20s he's a genius. I would have been fine trading down and getting JJ and wilson out of the 1st and extra picks but he managed to land JJ and wilson and sauce who is better then someone we would have gotten in the 2nd round with the extra picks. Mind you i'm not as high on sauce as others. He wasn't top 5 to me, more like top 10-15 at best, but I did think wilson was worthy of a top 10 pick as was JJ so we got 3 players that many people all had in their top 10 in the draft and that is pretty impressive even if we didn't get a top 5 guy. not to mention we still have a high 2nd (38) and a 3rd and 4 high 4ths
i like marquese bell as a 5th round flyer. we could limp by this year with joyner / davis vying for the FS spot next to whitehead and get a new FS next year. also the honey badger is still a FA
The WR run was pretty easy to see coming though when you looked at talent vs depth. I'm sure JD has inside sources from time to time too. There Is a HUGE drop off In WR talent after the first round WR that were taken tonight. Much better depth In other areas In the 2nd round In comparison to positions. As far as luck goes.. I think JD got lucky with JJ falling. Not In terms of where we picked him, clearly JD and Co. were trying to get back Into the first round at pick 15. The effort was there from an opportunity standpoint. The luck came from the fact that JJ fell at all, considering everyone had him top 10 heading Into this draft. I'm extremely high on Sauce as well, so this was just an absolute amazing draft for me. I couldn't be happier with It. Cheers to all my fellow NYJ fans. Tonight was a win. I'll take em where I can get em.
even looking around the NFL forums everyone including fans of other teams consider the jets winners with the top draft or a top 3 draft at worse
I am the happiest fan in the world. Sauce was my top player (overall) and he will be an instant pro bowler. His smart, ability and physicality make him a very special talent. (Watch and see) JJ was my 2nd best rated DE after Hutchinson and I wanted him at 10 overall. He is the most complete pass rusher and he is getting better. Very smart kid. I am not a huge fan of the WRs this year but it is pretty clear that Garrett Wilson is an NFL talent and he could become a #1. Overall I am stunned. This draft could 100% help us push for the playoff. We will have a legit defense next year and hopefully the offense will improve a bit.
I really admire people who think they are smart enough to cherry pick on a consistent basis. They don't win a lot but you have to admire their balls.
I was torn before the draft. My review of Sauce's film made me believe he was the best player in this draft. But Edge and WR were such positions of need that, while I really wanted Sauce, I felt like we had to go with KT at #4 if available and Wilson or Williams at #10. I'm thrilled that Joe found a way to get the best of all worlds. JJ + Sauce > KT.
Seconded. I'm rooting for Tyler Allgeier, but I doubt he'll be there when our number comes up. But there are plenty of good solid backs that should be available to us at 101.
Do you think Sauce replaces Hall? I have read Jets are not too high on him. While I’m not crazy about Sauce selection I understand drafting impact players. JJ is going to help this defense tremendously. Wilson should also help the offense, the Jets should be a matchup nightmare for most defenses now.
