I think London and Williams are the only 2 WR’s with both the production and a game breaking set of traits worthy of a Top 10 pick. I like London more personally.
I certainly respect your opinion given as much time and effort as you put into studying the players, but I question whether London is truly a "game breaking" WR at the NFL level. I do like that he's big and sure-handed, and is used to playing in the spotlight as the "go to guy", but he doesn't have world class speed, and I foresee him being slowed down and eventually dragged down by bigger, stronger defenders than what he's played against in college. I do also think he'd be a good Red Zone target, so that's a big plus, but again, I don't see him breaking loose from 60 yards out to go the distance. Williams OTOH is a threat to go all the way from anywhere. My only two concerns with him are: - Will he have healed from his injury fully - not just in time for the season, but going forward? - I'd really prefer a bigger target to balance the WR room. That said, his physical gifts, especially his speed and quickness, offset this concern in my mind. I just want a true stud #1 WR for change whoever it is.
Crazy how little consensus there is on the top WR prospects this year. I think Wilson or London are the safest choices personally. I watched more film of Williams a couple days ago to try to sell myself on him and I'm just not really seeing it. He has gamebreaking speed, no doubt, and he's a great deep threat, but I just don't see a complete WR when I watch him. It seemed like legitimately 90% of his routes were posts or go routes where he just ran by everyone and caught a deep bomb. That's definitely a valuable thing to have, but I saw extremely little of him running other routes across the middle, short, intermediate etc. He also catches with his body a lot. I feel like he's extremely reliant on speed and I feel uncomfortable taking a guy like that at #10 coming off a torn ACL.
London was essentially the only high quality player on USC last year, and no matter what defenses tried to do they couldn’t stop him. He had no help, and a crappy QB. Defenses attempted to double and even triple cover him at times and he still carried the USC offense. To put it into perspective, Michael Thomas holds the NFL record for receptions in a season at 149. Drake London’s final season at USC was so ridiculously reception heavy that if he kept up that pace in a 16 game season he would have had 176 receptions, smashing Michael Thomas’ record. I’m not saying London is going to come in and set the NFL receptions record but this guy can absolutely take over a game. He is dominant.
It’s partly because it’s going to be so situation dependent for these guys, but also so much of it comes down to how highly each individual values speed at the WR position. I think London is the type of player who can come in and have over 1K yards and 10+ TD’s per season every single healthy year of his career starting in his rookie year. And he will here and there have games where he drops 175 yards receiving when the matchup favors him. Obviously it depends on the offense and QB
Yeah this is why London is my #1 with Wilson being #2. I think London and Wilson have very similar floors but London has a higher ceiling due to his size. He's not fast but he's quick and light on his feet which is more important anyway. He elevates and changes direction well, especially for someone his height and weight.
Have to give thumbs down on this mock. Johnson, I like but London doesn't move the needle. The Jets can get the exact duplicate of London later in the draft in Alec Pierce may be in the 2nd or 3rd round. Raimann and Jones would be development types. I would just prefer a speedier wide receiver at 10 instead of London. We already have a London on the roster in Corey Davis.
I’m all for the idea of picking WR’s later, but I don’t know how you can watch Alec Pierce and Drake London and call them duplicates. Pierce is a tall WR with good explosive traits but they are very different players… And Corey Davis is different from both
I feel like London has very little projection. I see his skills, and play style, and I feel like I know EXACTLY how that will translate. That’s a very rare thing I think for any college prospect.
Respect the mock but gotta disagree. 1 JJs floor is too low to pick at 4, and I don't see his ceiling being too high. Hutchinson, Kayvon, Sauce, Stingley or Hamilton. 2 Weak WR class...I dont see the 1st rounders being much better than the 2nd rounders, we shouldnt reach for a WR1 just because we have two top 10 picks. London is only an inch taller than Davis, so I'm sick of hearing he's a red zone threat. 3. Great value at 35. 4. 330 lb NT when we run a 4-3? I went to UConn, the football program isn't great, he would need time to develop and this is an early 2nd rounder we'd be using.
Well, JJ’s status as an elite run defender gives him one of the highest floors in the class I believe. I think you can question whether based on his age entering the league how high his ceiling might be, but I think he has great character and will continue to develop. As far as London vs Davis, London is more than an inch taller but the real difference between them is their play style. Davis doesn’t have remotely the same kind of acrobatic body control when elevating, or the same vertical leaping ability. Jones is a special mover for a large NT, and just because they don’t run a 3-4 doesn’t mean they don’t need a NT, it just means they don’t need a pure 2-Gapping NT. I think Jones can be the rare NT who can create pass rush pressure and fits the attacking scheme they run.
If its a 2nd round pick on an OT ----- as much as I like Raimann, - I'd probably grab Tyler Smith OT from Tulsa. Everyone raving about his upside.
Smith would be the perfect selection in Rd 2, if we go OT at #4, which could be a distinct possibility.
4. Sauce Gardner 10. Garrett Wilson 35. Tyler Linderbaum 38. David Ojabo best cb, best wr, best center... and an Edge that is arguably just as talented as the top guys in this draft...
I love all 4 players. I'm a huge Sauce fan, but I'm getting a vibe that we are going to go in a different direction at # 4. I really think there is a strong possibility we will go OT at # 4. That BPA statement by JD holds water. We need an OT with one of our 4 picks, no faith in our 2020 top pick. I don't believe Garrett will make it to # 10, if he does, no brainer. Linderbaum will probably go in the 20's, he would be a steal @ #35.
