I had actually picked up some turkey bacon on Thursday and then saw this thread Friday, trying to eat a little healthier and all that. So while it's not terrible, when your taste buds are expecting real bacon and you bite into turkey bacon it's just a complete shock to the system. Probably going to need a double bacon cheeseburger for lunch and bacon wrapped pork tenderloin for dinner to balance things out,
This is like how my Boy Scout troop, which was organized through a synagogue, tried to convince us that beef fry over an open fire for breakfast was just as good as bacon. Uh, no. I can understand sausage having its supporters, but I'm pleased to see that (so far, anyway) no one has gone with ham. IMO there is absolutely no comparison between ham and eggs and bacon or sausage and eggs.
When camping it was a pound of bacon in the cast iron skillet and when that was done didn't dump any of the bacon grease and just dump the dozen scrambled eggs right in that grease. Surprised I didn't have clogged arteries by the time I was 15.
Yep, that's what we called them but when I do it now I do pour out some of the bacon grease, not all the grease from the pound of bacon. Of course this morning there was no grease and there is still a lot of left over turkey bacon, which if it was real bacon I would have finished off my now. Of course it is only me eating the bacon now so usually only make a 1/2 pound not the full pound.
You guys are so fucking spoiled. They gave us like 3 matches and if we couldn't get the fire lit we'd eat raw potatoes and hotdogs. I can still feel the grit sensation on my teeth from the raw potatoes. Oh yeah and we hoisted Skip the counsellor's bed up into the rafters while he was asleep after one bad camp out. He broke his ankle when he stepped out of bed in the morning. That was tough justice there.
