There seems to be 2 phrases used very liberally in the forum. We’re not going to win anything this year And We need someone to contribute right away On the surface, those phrases have opposing mentalities. If we’re not going to compete this year, we’re better off with high ceiling guys who can heal/develop into future stars. If we want guys who can contribute right away, it’s because we think we can compete.
We absolutely must compete hard this year, and I expect immediate starting contributions from the draft first two rounds, including at least one game changer from the bunch.
Becton, AVT, Moore, Carter(RB) all contributed their first year. There should be no reason why the first four picks for the Jets from this years draft could not come in and contribute as well.
Not expecting them to really contend. Am expecting them to be competitive generally. No excuses for them not to play hard, keep games close and win enough to be in and around the play off race at Thanksgiving. Being good enough to actually get over the line is a different matter though.
This is where I landed too. We're not the Bengals. We're not 1 or 2 guys away from being a juggernaught either. We're a rebuilding team trying a different formula this year. Instead of rolling with the kiddie Corps, we're mixing in Vets who have solid resumes to create a competitive team and teach the kids how to play winning football.
My expectations for them are once again very low. I would just like to see them be competitive in games don't get blown out nine times next year. As much as it would suck, I could live with being out of it by Halloween if we're losing games late in the fourth quarter.
Rebuild or Win Now... Is that the same thing? How many years have the Jet been in Rebuild? Or was it just Win Now and we whiffed on FA and Draft picks so...its a Rebuild!
0-17 losing nearly every game by a single score, Zach throws 40 TD's to 18 INTS 3500 yards. #1 pick and a team about to explode in 23 Result /s
They need to be at least somewhat competitive. When the networks post the playoff standings each week, they need to at least be "In the Hunt" around Thanksgiving. If we are playing completely meaningless football in late November and into December, then some seats should start getting a little warm.
It's a good point. According to at least one (maybe former) poster the Jets have been rebuilding unsuccessfully since 69, which is - of course - BS. To rebuild you have to tear it down. JD did that in his first full year, then last season was the rebuild and this season coming should be moving into competitive. That's how I look at it anyway. Anything else is trying to win now, and just retooling certain positions. What JD has done is a rebuild. Idzik kind of tried to rebuild. Mac never did. Tanny definitely didn't.
With 4 high draft picks and coming off a 4 win season, if JD doesn't pluck 4 starters/major contributors we're doomed. I am confident in ZW after his disaster start with a rookie HC that year 2 we'll see progress to the point where those 2 aren't the reason we're losing games. I liked the way ZW played the last 5 games of the season - he looked like a legit NFL qb, it was certainly encouraging. I predict double the win total in 2022 and hover around 500 record to finish the year, with them being part of the playoff conversation in 2023...
In divisional terms, I don't want to be 4th in the division. Miami and NE are nothing special. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
The Dolphins and Pats are gettable this year. We need a good draft, remain relatively injury-free and our defense to move to the middle of the pack. The Bills have a year or two left to make a run. To approach 10 wins Zach would need to have a special season.
It’s all about Zach. If he takes the next step, the team will surprise people. If not, team is fucked for another 5 years. Sure hope he shuts up the doubters
Sorry but those choices aren't very inclusive. What about: If we get someone who can produce right away (actually 4 of them at least), why can't we compete this year? If we get at least 4 immediate contributors out of this draft, plus what Douglas has already added in FA, we should vastly improved. Of course other teams - notably Buffalo in our Division - have improved too, but if we aren't at least around .500 and in the p.o. picture in December I'd say the pressure will really increase on Douglas going in 2023.
This is where I disagree. I think Zach will be successful but if he busts it does not set us back five years. This is the era of rookie salary caps missing on a high draft pick does not cripple your team just look at what the Browns just did and the Rams.
Do I think we are going to win the Superbowl; hell no. Do we NEED to compete/show some fight; we damn sure better. They need to hit on several of these draft picks, they need to catch a few breaks, and players need to develop. I think we screwed up this off-season by not signing/trading for a pass rusher and receiver. Our receiver's can't stay healthy as proven last year, drops at the worst freaking time, and as we witness year after year the overall lack of depth. We desperately need another high end receiver, if we want to be competitive, it all boils down to Zach and how he develops
