I am neutral on this move by Cleveland But TBH Mayfield was quite a disappointment Can Watson be any worse?..I doubt it It's the off field drama you should brace for
250 million for Watson and back in the day everyone was stunned when Joe Willie Namath signed for $400,000. I guess you can call it inflation.
As badly as I've crucified Maccagnan - rightly so I still believe - for passing on Mahomes and Watson, Cleveland could've had either but passed. Now they have to pay this massive price to get Watson. As great as Watson is - or used to be - maybe this will work out for them, but I'm doubtful.
Cleveland is trying to win the Super Bowl, and while there's a chance this could end badly, their Super Bowl odds have gone up. Plus they'll get some of the picks back when they trade Baker. So I totally understand why they did this.
So Watson rejected the browns Watson preffered the Falcons Browns seem to have given into every demand Watson had and here we are. This feels like an owner wanted someone no matter what. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Funny how all that talk in 2018 of who the 1st pick in the draft should be and both Sam and Baker pretty much ended up being a bust.
If this was last year do you do this deal if your the Jets still with Darnold? Your set at QB for 5 years and get to build around him and make a run. The 3 first rounders I look at like its really 2 because you were going to use 1 to get Zach anyway and the other 2 could easily end up being just average players or worse.
I think its a good move by Cleveland at this point. They can get something back by trading Mayfield. And more importantly, they stink at finding QBs in the draft. Over the last 8 years: Could have had Josh Allen Took Baker Myafield. Could have had Mahomes or Watson Took Myles Garret and QB Deshawn Kizer in 2nd Could have had David Carr Took Johnny Manzil
Texans got lucky, that deal is ridiculous by the browns. I can't root for Watson, but Browns are desperate
I know this is a niggling thing to mention about Baker Mayfield given what the thread is about, but was anybody else besides me getting sick to death with how much he was being shoved down our throats with endorsements/commercials? He's not Johnny Unitas for Pete's sake. He's average at best and hasn't really accomplished anything.
As much as I hate to say it, this is a good move by the browns. Baker is not the guy and Watson is a huge upgrade. That said, I hope this blows up in the Brown's faces. I live in a suburb of CLE and and for years as a Jets fan I've been able to say "at least we're not the Browns." Mayfield choking in big spots was great to watch...Watson won't do the same. I've got 50 people coming over for a late St paddys party tonight and was loving the prospect of razzing all the browns fans for the way they fucked up the Watson/Mayfield situation earlier in the week...looks like I won't get that chance. The Browns have a window that’s ready to go right so it makes sense. They have an all world edge rusher in his prime surrounded by a really deep defense with a good secondary and a great offensive line and running game. The question is going to be how does all of the off the field stuff and being a year away from the game affect Watson and secondly - how does he fair playing that many games in the cold. The AFC South is very friendly in terms of weather.
I read this morning that after being rejected by Watson, the Browns' interest was re-energized by Mayfield's trade request. A classic case of overplaying your hand. Now I am reading that Mayfield wants to go to the Colts. Frank Reich was once thought to be a quarterback whisperer. I think the bloom is coming off that rose.
