They really need to change salary CAP system, where if you are in CAP hell, you should not be able to sign 10-15 million dollar a year guys. Teams just manipulate signing bonuses, restructure, and somehow push the can down the road forever. Saints, who are said to be in CAP hell somehow paid 10 mil for a safety, had another big signing, and also have plenty of room to absorb Deshaun's contract. They need to come up with something simpler. Like if you pay player X something this year, bonus or salary, that's what counts in CAP for this year. No more Tom Brady bullshit of restructuring 26 mil year CAP hit to 5 year contract 25 mil sign bonus, and 1 mil base, so that 25 mil is spread over 5 years as 5 mil each, and you have 5+1=6 mil dollar hit, while getting paid same 26 mil this year. P.S. I hope Robinson plays for them this year like he did for the Bears last one.
So with grabbing two TE's in FA, what chance have we now of drafting McBride, all of a sudden a lot of people's sure-fire draft pick may well have gone up in flames, mine too tbh. We may grab a one in the 5th possibly I guess?
That's the great thing - except for those who have a need to "nail the draft" - we can't know now what Douglas might do because he's filled these holes. It doesn't necessarily mean he won't take another player for a hole he just filled if he thinks it will be a longer term answer.
Doesn't he have quite a few miles on that body? How high is his level of play these days? Can he still play or is his reputation playing for him...
I havent watched the Eagles enough over the last 1-2 years but the games I watched that guy is just a beast in the middle..
I doubt we draft him now. maybe a TE in the 3rd or 4th like dulcich or ruckert but I wouldn't be surprised if we don't draft a TE at all
except you do. looking at the saints right now they can't afford watson, they need more room. watson will cost 35 mil against the cap this year. they are at 23 mil which only counts the top 51 for now however their entire cap needs to be under before the 1st game. they also have to sign draft picks. they have 30 mil in dead money. they didn't really sign anyone. maye's cap this year is only 2.6 mil and next year they are already only 1 mil under the cap with only 28 players. they lost 12 players this offseason, some of them good like williams and armstead and alexander and only signed 1 replacement for 2.6mil cap this year that baloons next year. meanwhile we brought in 5 starters and a TE2 for a total of 150 million. I don't see the issue here
Okay, what the fuck....Adams went for a 1 and a 2 and we didnt do dick shit....normally I am more cautious but this is a huge mistake....he would have made everything 10x better on O....yeah we can draft a receiver at 10 but is he gonna be like Justin Jefferson or another freaking Mims.....this is straight bullshit
Check the thread announcing his trade, sounds like he was trying to get back to Carr. Wasn’t going to sign a new deal with just anyone.
We have gotten some good players but if JD is afraid to take any big risks we will not get to the promised land. The best receiver in football was available for a reasonable price and we whiffed.
It was not that simple. He clearly wanted to go to Las Vegas and play with Carr. I am sure Adams had 0 interest in playing for the Jets.
There's also this piece : Not even talking about the picks given up, you better be 100% certain that Wilson is at least league average before making a move for this kind of WR contract.
Those of you thinking we should have done more to get Adams you can forget it. Jets were never a choice for him. There was only one choice. I knew two + weeks ago he had bought a monster home in Vegas thru my realtor friend in Carrs neighborhood. I live in Vegas part time and the rumor was rampant. His choice was the Raiders period and has been in the works since the Aaron deal was finalized.
