We're gonna have to have a few years of sustained success in the draft before we even think about getting comp picks.

You have to have free agents other teams want before you get compensatory picks.

You have to stop signing mediocre and over the hill free agents to 3 year deals before you start getting comp picks.

Once the Jets sign somebody to a 3 year $25M deal they basically lose all chance at comp picks because they never have more than one guy likely to draw that kind of offer from another team and the deals offset.

The first couple of years JD was operating you could kind of squint a bit and see a possible pattern for success. The last two have been horror show.

This can't be a surprise right? Bad teams don't have the luxury of letting good players walk.

They have cap space because they don't re-sign their own bad players, which allows them to sign free agents.

this is much more of an indicator of how poorly a team drafts then it does how they spend their money. Good teams let good players walk and backfill those spots with draft picks. We unfortunately don’t have that luxury because we have been one of the worst drafting teams of the last decade. Even this year when we let higher end free agents walk we probably won’t end up with any compensatory picks or they will be later picks… We had to replace those guys with free agents because we have no one to backfill those spots. And that’s not an indictment on the guys we signed at all because I think all of them are above average to excellent.

While i can't feign surprise I have become disgusted with the compensatory pick system that keeps us in the cellar.

Comp picks? You fucking nancies are weeping over goddamn comp picks? What the fuck is wrong with you? The Jets haven't been able to assemble a team worth watching for half a goddamned generation using their conventional picks and you crippled lesbians are worried about the spare fourth rounder? Holy mother of fuck.

Other teams get multiple players on cheap rookie deals.

Sure we shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly but it is not just chance and good decisions that keep our rivals on top,

What the hell is wrong with you?

    What you talking about?

Who needs comp picks when you can trade camp fodder for draft picks.

Joe is building the roster in the hopes of acquiring some comp picks in the future. The team has so little talent, he is required to sign a bunch of FA, which does not allow us to acquire comp picks. Next year when his first wave of 3 year contracts expire, we should hopefully see some comp picks coming in.

The trick is to not cut players, but rather let them walk in FA, but you don't replace them with another FA, you draft the replacement. Jets are trying to build towards sustained success. Joe is getting us there, although it has been a long road.

Hey, JD got 2023 6th rounder for Cashman. That's basically a comp pick.

Yeah but the basement of the 4th round is prime hooch for tweener safeties that can't tackle.

That's where Joe is a viking.
