Would be a dream: 1. Thibideaux 1a Garrett Wilson 2. Perrion Winfrey (total stud and underrated) 2a. Roger McCreay 3. Ruckert Could swap Mcbride for McCrey and go BPA at 3rd rd.
Why would we take a receiver at 10 when the value is higher at CB? If we trade down or better yet trade back up into the first round the value at WR would be there.
I think they take a LB with their 2nd round picks, jets need LB help, so far they have addressed the RG, S, CB, TE spots. They need a DE, LB, WR, and DL.
I mean Garrett Wilson is an instatnt Odell Beckham. For the other WR's London etc. I'd opt Sauce or Stingley at 10 possibly. Wilson is elite though.
Interesting. I guess I never paid much attention to Tretter. Would he be an upgrade? Also why is he being released by the Browns? Do they have another Centerr? Agree. Missing on any player however is a two way street. JD best effort within his long term plan and the players desire. Often the two don't align so a good GM has options, Lets face it, even though we are getting better, the Jets are not the premier destination for top players. Not even close. Those are the facts. Williams is better, but lets not underestimate what Whitehead brings to this team. Passion , constant pressure and 100% violence on every play. He is light and day a major improvement to our secondary. Lets not forget that the draft options are still open. So a Combination of Whitehead, Maye, or may be Hamilton with Joyner and Pinnock is quite a different package in my eyes. JD is making this team much better and in unison with the CS, keeping the draft a wide open selection for just about any position. How refreshing.
My free agent prediction is coming true: many free agents; no big names and more importantly: no huge contracts.
There are a lot of players I like that should be there in round two but I want the guys that no one thought would be available but somehow dropped. I would even consider moving later round or future picks to get up into round one. Gotta see what falls.
I agree JD has been fantastic so far. I think right now D-line and Lber has the biggest needs. followed by WR, TE, and maybe S The issue for me personally is within our system, it's all about the d-line. you don't need top tier talent in the back 7, you need smart fast players who can play zone. Gardner is more of a man CB and not a great tackler or very physical in the run game. doesn't fit our system well. on top of that it knocks hall back to CB5 so hall and echols become bench riders unless we get an injury. and hall IMO is too talented to ride the bench and fits the system well. echols flashed potential and is already knocked back to CB 5 with the signing of reed and would be knocked back to 6 and never see the field. It just seems like a waste to me personally. we need a lot at the d-line. so much so i'd even argue a case to double dip. taking KT and then another edge at 10. like we did with abraham and ellis. then add winfrey in the 2nd. doing this could allow a rotation at DE of lawson, KT, jermaine johnson , and huff. at DT JFM would slide inside and start with Q and rotate rankins, winfrey, and marshall. this system is built on the d-line and it's extra insurance in case lawson doesn't come back to what he was before the injury. this still allows a WR at 38 and the WR depth this year is great and a TE in the 3rd like dulcich. if KT does go 3rd overall we can grab hamilton and johnson. hamilton would instantly improve the secondary to go with whitehead and give us depth of davis and joyner. in your scenerio we basically are paying reed 11 mil to be a slot CB. hall is an outside only guy, reed can play inside but is better outside. it would be reed, sauce, carterr , guidry and hall and echols would be on the bench
myles jack got released and would be a perfect fit for salehs defense as a mike or sam. probably a mike for us.
Love what JD has done thus far. Filled massive holes at positions of need and can draft BPA. At this point I'd love to trade down from 4 if an edge isn't there and hopefully stay in the top 10 so we can pick up extra draft capital for 2023. Also, I know we have the parameters but it will interesting to see the contract details tomorrow so we get a better sense how much is left on the cap for this year. I recall the draft picks will require a significant chuck of change. I have one thought on the trade front: two players who have lost the trust/faith with their respective teams and are in dire need of a change of scenery. Denzel Mims for Laviska Shenault. Both 2020 2nd rounders. I know Moore and Berrios fill that gadget role for M. Lafleur but Shenault could be a perfect Deebo Samuel Lite addition in this offense. Either way, not much downside for either team. BTW, I'm still bitter JD traded down from 48 to 59 w/ Sea with Chase Claypool, Trevon Diggs, Cam Akers, and Van Jefferson on the board (all of which were drafted right ahead of us).
I could totally see Woody signing off on a guy like Gardner Minshew. Half the fanbase could be calling for Minshew Magic by week 6.
I don't see CB as an area of need anymore. Reed is a starter. Hall is likely a starter. Carter in the nickel. Plus Echols will likely compete to start or be depth along with Guidry and Dunn as depth. I suppose if the perfect value and fit is there it's on the table, but not a target area IMO. I think DE, DT, and WR are top priorities with an additional TE, LB, and maybe S and iOL as other areas to address. They could be in position to take a top Edge in the 1st and a very solid DT in the 2nd. On the whole, I'm thrilled with what JD has done.
I would imagine Tretter could get released because they have a ton of money tied up in other spots on the line to pickup slack for the center spot. They also have two dynamic running backs so they might be trying to get by with a cheaper option at the spot.
One more thing - I know I'm on a roll of consecutive posts. Interesting note from Connor Hughes on how the Jets feel about their LBs:
yeah saleh said that and while I don't agree it's the way the jets see things. I don't expect a LBer high at all. they also like sherwood alot who was drafted last year but injured the whole year and have cashman and nasrildean so who knows
Gotta take what the draft gives you. If you can get a potential all pro at CB there is no one on our roster that would give you second thoughts.
What are you talking about? Gardener is a big corner who jams receivers at the line and is a sure tackler. I get that a man of his talents may be overkill but let's get our facts straight.
