I really like this pickup. Hopefully they show Van Rotten the door ASAP.

The top of the draft is loaded on defense.

    Our line looks stout.

it's also loaded with o-line which we don't need and many teams do so that can help players fall to us. I expect neal, okonwu and cross to all go in the top 10. I also expect willis to go top 10. that means we could land a steal at 10 and even 4.

We sign one guard and our line is suddenly fixed. Except when the inevitable 2 injuries a year strike and everything goes off the rails. We say this every year about this time. Tomilson is a 2 year rental. This is JDs 3rd off season. Lets finally get the o-line done, with good starters and quality depth, and be done with it. It will benefit Zach, the entire offense, and our future line headaches.

Why is it a two year rental? Who is to say he can't be here for another 5 years?

solid signing, they have a history with this player therefore should know what they are getting, and clearly he was a priority. good start.

Nice seeing JD spending significant cash on a quality FA. Resigning Berrios shows they've learned their lessons about the return game becoming more important in the big picture.

our line was average last year even without becton and the injuries. now we get becton back and tomlinson. AVT was a rookie and was good and will improve. mcgovern is a solid top 10 C.

Why would you sign a 30 year old guard on a team that is in a build?

The Jets need to get a serious grip on the fact that they have no clue what they are doing right now.

The jets could sign Peyton Manning, Jerry rice, megatron, Ray Lewis, and Reggie White and you would still complain and bitch about our FO.

You know what they say, 30 is the new 38. We'll be lucky to get two good years out of Tomlinson.

Actually no one says that, nevermind.

Br4d, we gotta keep ZW in one piece until the rest of the team is in place. If that means we sign veteran guys who can still play at a high level, what's the problem?

Is this not the time to grab some development talent, that can slot in for an injury.

    OT
    Bernhard Rainmann projected #69
    Rasheed Walker OT #139
    Obinna Eze #174
    Jean Dalance #244

    OG
    Cole Strange #135
    Cade Mayes #141
    Thayer Munford #183
    Dohnovan West #189
    Ben Brown #428

Later round promise, obviously not currently elite but 4 or 5 of them have the chance to be if they take it and are coached effectively.

What's your point really? First move in free agency by JD was beefing up a weak OG position and you make that statement. Did anyone imply that is the end state for our OL? We got better, that's a fact. The draft has not happened yet so you don't know what additions will be made to beef up the pipeline. He has prioritized the line since he has been here, some good and some misses but he is focused on the OL. You just expected a one year miracle.

Starting to feel he was our number 1 o line target.

Knows the system, fits right in.
Worked with member of our coaching staff.

That means that the coaches already know the person and their ability. Knowing that and paying that to come in and play now.

I fully expect that this allows us to take chances on later round/udfa guards to learn then maybe take over.

Yeah that's a possibility. That is also a gamble. Lets be the team that has a top o-line, which usually means we will also have a top offense. I'm still of the mind that building out in the trenches is the way to a successful rebuild and a successful offense.

So when Joe Douglas is applying for his next job he can point to the offensive line and tell prospective employers "OL is my expertise, look what I did with the Jets."

Because every offseason we win our super bowl, that is of course until the season starts and reality sets in!
