mosley is a will for us. not a SAM. we don't use sam much either. me mostly run Ni package. it would be wagner as the MIKE and mosley as the WILL. Quincy would be the SAM when needed. with that said it is intriguing. positives we have the money mosley will be gone next year wagner is still a beast knows the system could QB the defense and teach the young guys reliable (only missed 2 games in the past 7 years total) negatives he is older (will be 32 this summer) not as good as he once was might want a long term deal which JD won't give to someone of his age might want to play for a contender
It would certainly make our D a lot better, but I don't see it happening. I don't see JD putting that kind of money into the LB position. We're already overpaying Mosely and would have to overpay Wagner as well. We have bigger needs that our FA $s need to go to. While it's fun to think about him in our D, the reality is that we shouldn't do it. We aren't a contender. We don't need to sign players over 30 and give them big contracts.
Bobby would easily be the best Mike to suit up for the Jets. That said, there’s no indication that he’d want to sign here as opposed to contenders that need his services. In five years, he’ll make one hell of a coach. Would sign up for that in an instant.
I hate that fans think about draft position when team is playing on Sundays, we should only want one thing and that’s for Wins! With regards to Wagner, he’s not going to sign with Jets, he wants to play for contender, maybe he’ll sign a team friendly deal with Denver since Wilson is going there but apart from that, he’s looking at a small group of teams to sign with.
I haven’t spoken with him as you and some others have so I’ll defer to you guys. The Broncos run a 3-4 and the Cowboys are in cap hell. Who is Bobby thinking about signing with that has cap room, is a good fit, and needs a MLB? Patriots?
Many teams run hybrid defenses, the Bengals were one of those teams. Moseley was a 3-4 LB and made the adjustments to the Jets 4-3. Wagner should have no problem playing for a team that runs a hybrid 3-4 or 4-3. I don’t have a list of teams that need his skill set, but I hope Jets don’t sign him, we have enough young players that need development and only way they are getting it is by playing.
We weren’t running a 4-3 when we signed Mosley. Conversely we tried to sign Barr who backed out, it part bc he didn’t feel comfortable changing schemes. Our youth is on the WiL side, imo neither Wagner nor Mosley are built for the weak side. Bengals could be interesting. The owner has a reputation for not wanting to pay but maybe being that close to a SB changed him.
Mosley made a great transition to the 4-3, I’m not saying he is our best option, but he is an example of a player that made the necessary adjustments and he ended up with the best year of his NFL career. It can be done but I do understand how some players can’t make that transition as well. Bengals have been historically cheap but they have been spenders in FA the last couple of years and it has payed off. I’ll let you know what Wagner tells me as we get closer to FA……
Everyone's answer should be "me!" Wagner is a star that immediately transforms the face of the defense. Everyone should want him. No one should expect to sign him though.
for the masochists among us, Wagner was selected with our pick. We traded that pick and two others so we could move up and grab Stephen Hill
how many times have we shelled out for top guys and made fans happy only to have it implode? mosley, bell, trumaine. it's better to sign younger mid tier guys to fill our needs that fit our system then go after big names. use the draft to get your studs
