(2) Adam Schefter on Twitter: "Colts are trading QB Carson Wentz to Washington for a package of packs that is thought to include two third-round picks, sources tell ESPN. https://t.co/KYb7rj5ozw" / Twitter
PFT said they want Garrapolo. This is bad news for the Jets trading back as both Denver and Washington are out of the QB market.
That makes the most sense, the list of FA QB's is not good. If they can exchange those 2 3rd rounders for Jimmy G. that is a HUGE upgrade from Wentz for no cost...
It happens, they took a chance on a guy that used to be good. I look at it like they were smart enough to cut bait, pass off his entire $28mm salary and got a couple 3rd round picks. The Jets front office would blame everyone else and give the guy an extension.
It’s not like he was garbage for them, he had good numbers for a team that likes to run the ball as well. I believe it has to do with his pompous attitude, he was difficult to work with in Philadelphia, everyone made excuses for him, now his former OC Frank Reich and current HC has no problem with team trading him after a good season. It’s pretty obvious what the problem is with Carson Wentz.
I don’t understand the fascination with Garrapolo, guy is overrated and can’t make the big time plays when it’s needed from him, he’s constantly dealing with injuries as well. Sure he is fan friendly and will have the women drooling for him but Colts need more than that at this point.
They also made weird decisions throughout the season, where benching him (such as in the blowout win vs. Jets) may have given them a chance to miss the criteria for a first round pick. They played him every down they could, almost like they wanted to trade the first. So weird.
They're built to win now and need a proven QB. Garoppolo wouldn't have to carry the load with Taylor in the backfield. Yes, I'd want better if I was their FO, but who else is out there. Watson still has legal stuff that needs to be resolved. I guess Trubisky is a possibility since he would only cost money.
Both tradeups in the 2016 draft have now turned into disasters. I mean they both kinda look like QB's but they don't have that "whatever" that makes QB's winners in the NFL. Note that the 2015 top, 2016 top and 2017 top of the draft are now total disasters and the 2018 top is verging on that status. So much for 'you should go get your QB whatever the cost" approach to NFL team-building. On tap: 2019 with Murray looking questionable and Jones probably a failure. QB's at the top of the draft are vastly over-rated. They're as likely as the next guy to fail and when they fail they can cost you 5 years easy.
People were saying the same thing about the Bears last offseason. And San Francisco. To me, both Wentz and Jimmy G qualify as a backup to a high draft pick at this point in their career.
Teams going for their QBs now. Weak QB draft I'm assuming? College football isn't really my things. lol
Wentz and Garoppolo aren't elite, but they're legit starters and way better than anything the Jets have had since before Pennington got hurt.
he manages to play poorly when he is needed most is what I remember... they were 9-6 just looked it up... they lost home to Raiders and away to Jax last 2 games threw for 148 and 185 respectively in those games to crash out of playoffs
I may believe that aside from Burrow the top 3 pick QB's of the last 3 seasons are also disasters in the making however I didn't add them to the count because I wanted to keep the count at the QB's drafted in the top 3 after Peyton in the next 20 drafts. Everybody after that we can point to with some certainty but they still have a puncher's chance to prove us wrong. I'd love it if Zach Wilson pulled a Josh Allen and somehow pulled out of the tailspin before he hit the ground. Give me a top 3 pick and I am taking the best player on my pick and that is almost never going to be a QB. If I want a QB I am going to trade that pick down until I find a pick where I think the value of the pick equals the value of the player. I am going to use all the other picks I get trading down to put other players around that QB and do everything I can to see him succeed.
