I was all in on giving 2nd overall + 2 more 1s. So it was 2021 #2 overall, 2021 Seattle pick, + Seattle 2022 pick. Watson is only 25 Y/O. You would have him for 13 more years. And you would still have #4, #35 and #38 this year, but Watson instead of Wilson.
Joe Douglas really sent the Seahawks straight into rebuild mode. that being said, this was a fantastic trade for them and a great way to jumpstart a rebuild.
Wilson turns 34 after week 13 next season. Great quarterback, and understandable trade to make for a team like Denver looking to go all-in for a chip, but man, there's a ton of potential downside in it.
7 years!?!?!?!?! If they really think that, I think they're delusional. Wilson has taken a pounding over the last several years. At most, I think they get 2-3 years out of him. If they win a SB in 2022, he could opt to retire. If they don't win a SB within 2 years, I think they're going to look extremely foolish. They gave up too much for a 33 year-old QB.
What chance did they have anyways without a QB? They have a stacked roster and could only sniff the playoffs.
the Bronco's will be superbowl contenders for the next few years instead of drafting around 10, while we'll still be contenders for the first pick. what exactly is the question?? 50 plus years since our last superbowl appearance and people here still criticize teams for trying to win it. i just don't get it. these picks are worthless if not utilized properly. we had a decade worth of picks with nothing to show for it except 10 plus losses every year that turned to 12 plus. kudos to the Broncos for trying and I'm jealous of their fans who have a team that is actually trying.
Regardless of whether the deal is a win for the Broncos in the long-term (I don't think so) the fact remains another AFC team just got significantly better in the short-term (while another NFC team begins their rebuild). This doesn't bode well for the Jets, which at the end of the day, is all that matters. There are just too many quality teams to compete w/ in the AFC right now. It's another reason why I don't think JD looks to make a big splash in free agency and holds onto some $. I could be wrong but I think he inks one or two players entering their prime to multi-year deals and a bunch of one-year deals to fill out the roster so he has cap flexibility next year. This year will be all about the growth of our incoming rookie class and 2nd year players.
He’s one of the top QBs in the league, Rodgers is 38 and playing at a high level, Brady played till 40. Wilson is plenty capable of adjusting his style of play and extend his career.
At the end of the day the Broncos have a good QB, the Jets don’t. You have to get off your asses and make a big move for a good QB when one becomes available ask the Rams if they regret paying too much for Stafford. Oh wait, nah they are busy celebrating their SB title. we will look forward to “progress” in 2022. Maybe 3rd place instead of last. I don’t want to ask too much though
That's the bet the broncos are making, but I think it's a bad one. He's been hurt and missed time changing your style of play isn't as easy as saying it. Rodgers and Brady have been well protected most of their careers, Wilson has not.
Yes, kudos to them, but they have a much better roster than we do. Even so, a steep price to pay. But I have to admit I'm a little jealous, not of this particular move, but because the Broncos philosophy is always tilted towards taking risks to win. We seem to be risk-averse. There's a middle ground, but we never seem to occupy it.
The Broncos really need to get a Super Bowl out of this and have Wilson play well for at least 3 more seasons in the process. I give them maybe a 20/80 chance on that. It's a huge risk. Actually I think the 20/80 is generous. There are a lot of good QB's in the AFC right now and odds on a Bronco Super Bowl win over the next 3 years are less than 20%.
No, two future (as of last year) firsts: "The 49ers have traded up from the 12th overall pick to the third overall in a deal with the Miami Dolphins, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday. Miami receives the 12th overall selection from San Francisco, a third-round pick and first-round picks in 2022 and 2023..."
Plus the 1st round pick they used to draft him; 3 picks total. I know most don’t think of it that way but they in essence traded 3 1st rd picks for Lance.
