He was too slow on the easy throws though, not too quick. By and large I mean, obviously there were times when he executed correctly or incorrectly in the opposite manner
I think you are remembering wrong he cleaned up his easy throws a lot when he came back and it became a non-issue. . Completion percentage is a deceiving stat if taken out of context. Why was his completion percentage down? Drops-yes, throwing the ball away- yes, bad routes-yes, bad throws- yes. Numbers only tell part of the story. Zach's trajectory was on the rise at the end of season. He played well against the Dolphins Qb Rating of 80 , Eagles QB Rating 83.6 and played really well against the Bucs 89 QB rating. Let's see if can keep that momentum.
In that Bucs game, he looked like he really settled in, was confident in managing the game, and appeared very comfortable, as if he had played for years...
I get Zach didn't have much support, but league average is in the low 90s, so these were not good games. (And for what it's worth Davis Mills also played for a bad team, and his rating was 89 over the entire season.)
Yep. That game was one where, if you focus on Zach throughout the game, you are a bit astonished at how low his stats are given how well he played, but then you remember that he was playing with only a few members of the 1st string offense. To play against the defending SB champs (and the GOAT) with your 2s and 3s and come away with an 89 was actually pretty impressive for a rookie.
agreed and even that good game ended with him blowing the game with a bonehead decision so it takes the shine off of it
OK...so what's your thoughts on ZW spinning towards his outlet and throwing the ball into the dirt? What did you 'see' when this happened?
I get it....but my thought is his fear of getting hit caused him to rush his throws, even the EZ ones. Maybe not, just seemed logical. No one really knows what was going thru his head when he duffed throws you and I can make. I'm sure he'd love to have those back!
I agree with this. Zach was taking an insane amount of hits the first few weeks. Hard to imagine that not having some sort of impact. It seemed to affect his willingness to set his feet.
I think LaFleur will do that. I think he dialed things back in consideration of the spotty pass pro and receiver's ability to get open. I think both Zach and LaFleur showed a willingness and ability to learn from their mistakes.
every way possible. holds the ball to long , accuracy, reading defenses, needs to loose that scared puppy look when he drops backs. but that's just me, i never liked the him . that being said, i will root my ass of for him to prove me wrong.
I'm just saying he didn't seem panicked aka Sam Seeing Ghosts. I do t believe that was the reason for his errant passes. I'd be more inclined to chalk it up to a mental thing, aka the Yips.
For me it was his progressions. He simply held the ball too long surveying the field. His quick release got him out of trouble a lot this year. That will come with experience. I really like the flashes I saw and once the game starts slowing down for him he can really be special with his arm talent, quick release and making plays with his feet.
