1. If ZW performs in ‘22 as he did in ‘21, he will need to be replaced in ‘23 2. If Becton performs in ‘22 as he did in ‘21, he will need to be replaced in ‘23 3. Our D thrives with a strong pass rush. We need more weapons on the DL/EDGE for the ‘22 season. 4. We need offensive weapons at WR, TE, and RB I think we can agree on all these points. With all the disagreement on the details, I just wanted to see if we can all agree on some things.
I know we have to be optimistic being Jets fans but..... 1. ZW gets three years minimum. There's no chance of the GM & HC bailing on their guy. 2. He's got something to prove no doubt. He has to show up in shape & motivated otherwise he's collateral and on the trading block. 3. Agreed as the #1 priority. We have to take 1 of the 2 obvious Edge players AH or KT with the #4 pick. 4. Agreed. I want wideout with the #10 pick. After having the Edge at #4. I think we're close !!
ZW was a rookie with a rookie HC and a rookie OC calling plays. I think he gets more than just next year. I saw flashes of huge potential with Wilson. He needs a go to WR and I think he will grow. You can’t teach a release like that it’s either you have it or you don’t. I’m hopeful JD gets him a true #1 and see what he can really do. Becton is on thin ice and hopefully he knows that too because this is the year he needs to be the LT we drafted and saw such huge potential for.
The only thing we can all agree on is that we're all Jets fans. 1. Zach will get at least 2 if not three more years, although if somehow he doesn't improve this next season they'll start looking for a Plan-B even if they keep him. I'm not at all worried that this will happen. 2. If Becton shows up out of shape for OTAs - or doesn't show up at all - I think they'll look to trade him. This is what makes taking a stud OT/G a big possibility. 3. Agree. 4. Agree. That was easy!
Definitely agree with 3 and 4. Becton did not play a full game in 2021, so I guess you mean he needs to stay healthy, which I agree with. 1 though is complicated. First of all, he won't play like he did in 2021. He will be better and more consistent. It's hard to say what Zach Wilson was his rookie year or what it means to perform the same in 2022. He improved as the season went along. He needs to take steps forward in 2022 for sure, and I think he will. If he completely face plants in 2022 and is the reason the team is losing, then it becomes an interesting situation. I don't think that will happen though.
@KingRoach didn't say replace ZW after 2 seasons. He said IF Zack plays just as bad in his second full season as he played in his first, JD will have no option but to bring in another QB to compete with Z and possibly take the reins. After 2 consecutive seasons of being the worse QB in the league, JD just can't go into Zack's 3rd season like alls good. And he's right.
We’re in a conundrum on the defensive line though. We do need more talent there but we have one of the top defensive line payrolls in the league and that excludes the looming Quinnen Williams extension. So the only place we can really add to the unit is in the draft. And Sheldon Rankins needs to be cut to help alleviate this problem a bit.
I do think we should not wait 3 years if we are not seeing any improvement from Zach and more importantly we are in a situation to get a shot at a better QB through the draft.
If Zach Wilson shits the bed and looks just as bad In year 2 or worse. I'd be livid If they force me to watch that shit show three years In a row. Then again, It's the fucking Jets, doing SOJ things. So, that's likely exactly what would end up happening. Hopefully Wilson plays like an NFL caliber QB next year and I don't have to worry about it.
For all the Posters here who have great ZW hopes and insights and I respect ..TBH I will be depressed beyond measure if Wilson a #2 Pick, a long term Investment, who will get plenty of support and weapons, FAILS in year fucking 2 for him
1. Zach gets 2 more years come hell or high water. 2. If Becton plays as he did in 2020, he's good to go. 3. If ZW puts it all together, items 3 and 4 will be moot, nice to have but not necessary. Otherwise, I agree.
Man this title didn’t age well even it’s in infancy lol. Seems we not all agreeing, who would of thought haha. But most of it for sure and everyone has their own opinions
