The reality is the Ukraines will fight a bloody war armed with weapons, supplies from the West and hopefully teach Putin a costly lesson Then with the economic sanctions racheted up, the Russians soldiers killed, Putin 's Russia will be in for a long costly experience

That is the state of your democracy. The USA as a whole does not exist anymore, it's all about democrats versus republican at all cost. They would fight each other before fighting China/Russia.
The situation that we're in right now is likely part of a grand plan hatched in Moscow in 2012 or so. Get the UK out of the EU to weaken it. Divide the American public to weaken the US. Create further division in the EU by making Germany more dependent on Russian energy. Get autocrats elected in Eastern Europe to weaken their resolve to defend their newly found Democracy. The election of Trump was a completely unexpected windfall of the divide and conquer the US strategy. The ascension of Boris Johnson, who is a uniquely divisive UK leader was a further windfall. Now Putin is trying to capitalize on all of that before it falls apart.
I'm normally skeptical about wide ranging explanations of a variety of international events, but I certainly wouldn't put this past ruthless KGB analyst Putin. In any case, the divisions in our country (which I believe are partly attributable to sophisticated and pervasive Russian infiltration of U. S. social media, combined with our national historical tendencies toward isolationism and anti-intellectualism) have certainly played into Putin's hands.
The divides in the us has been happening way before 2012. Dems and Republicans have been at this for far longer, only the internet has made it louder and seem much fresher.
The divides are different now. The Left is more socialist and the Right more fascist. This is not accidental. It required some real thought and not from an American viewpoint.
It’s not like we weren’t warned of this by Russians decades ago. Didn’t they say they didn’t need to fight us, they would get to us through the youth etc? I’m just surprised a good portion of this country falls for it , hook, line and sinker. And I can’t stand hearing anything anymore from anyone who swings hard left, or hard right.
The people who swing hard left and right are swinging at America. They may not realize it but that's what they are doing and outside of the American experience both sides will be miserable in the end.

I only saw the headline, that trump called Putin a genius. I am assuming it’s because he’s alluding to Putin making Biden look bad. Trumps no “republican”. He’s a shoddy car salesman that will align with the first group that buys his bullshit. I think the traditional dems and reps is a fading thing is theirs country, and as much as I don’t care about either one, balance is important.
