It is a fair comment but do you think throwing 52 times would have made a huge difference?

Or the 49 attempts Fields had?

Or we could have just gone with Morgan who got himself 35 attempts.

I am not a Wilson fan either but it is what it is and he either improves and we go places or he doesn't and we get another QB in 2023.

I think 52 throws might well have convinced the Jets Wilson was not ready and the fan base that it was ok to acquire a vet to start the season with.

It's worse than that I think.

I think the Jets are likely to run Wilson out there for most of next season come hell or high water. Then in 2023 they'll either start all over with a new regime or they'll run him back out there again because they're in denial about what they've done.

I think drafting Zach Wilson set the Jets pathway to respectability back by 5 seasons. Now we might see a competitive team in 2025 or 2026, whereas a competent build that did not include drafting somebody just to market might have gotten us there by 2023 or 2024. Maybe even be 2022.

I didn't like the pick when it was made and nothing since has made me like it more now, but the rebuild is now set back five years? Come on already.

The rebuild is set back by that amount because the Jets are in Richard Todd-land with the guy they drafted.

If they were going to do a quick reset now we might be competitive by 2023 or 2024. We might even be marginally competitive this season.

Instead we're likely to be watching the same training-wheels approach to QB that we saw at the end of the season and we're going to be much slower installing the actual offense. Which of course makes it much more likely that we're looking at a new offensive approach in 2023 or 2024 because the last regime blew out.

Which Vet at that stage of the season was available and capable?

It turned out we had one in JJ as it happened but who would ever have known that lol

There are guys here convinced that you build the squad and then add the QB last, if we keep doing what we are doing (granted it needs a top draft this year by JD) then at worst we will be able to drop some other young prospect into the mix when it is all ready, if Wilson continues to be a bit of a flop, let's hope not though eh?

Not sure he was drafted just to market, that is a little tinfoil hat kinda talk, no?

I wanted Lance but I wanted him at say 15-20 and I was wanting the guy from the 49ers (bit of a scrub, forgot his name now lol) to sit for a season, it was Nick Mullens, I would have taken Trubisky as well, game managers who could settle in the system while Lance learned how to play QB.

I think Wilson will get this season, if he really does show nothing then he will be a gonna, I don't think they will kid themselves into a third season but then it may already be too late for JD and Saleh and then we would be talking longer than 5 years no doubt.

There are a lot of different ways to dice the beast when you're putting together a contender.

The Jets have one way that they favor which is to get the QB and put him on the field immediately to see what they have. This has two likely outcomes: 1. The guy is not ready for prime time yet or not good enough to play in the NFL, 2. the guy plays well and it is clear that he is not going to be a problem in the build.

So far the Jets have hit the first case 4 times in a row with Sanchez, Geno, Darnold and now Wilson. Given that this is what has happened you would think that there is an organizational mantra being put in place that states that drafting a young QB and throwing him onto the field is a no-no and the pattern should not repeat a 5th time in the next go-round. Somehow I doubt that this is the case.

Note that Sanchez was actually handed a team that was good to go except for WR. The Jet's WR's were questionable after Cotchery and when Cotchery went down the Jets traded for Braylon Edwards immediately. Note also that although the tale ultimately had a short-term happy ending in that the Jets got to the AFC Championship Game, for much of the season Sanchez play seemed likely to forestall any positive results. His play as a rookie nearly took the Jets out of contention, a result that likely would have changed the arc of Jet's history. The owners were already upset about the collapse in 2008 and having the veteran team in 2009 collapse also probably would have caused earthquakes all around the team structure.

The other three guys all got handed teams that were not ready for prime time and in conjunction with their own unreadiness this 10 year roadtrip to hell got enroute.

It's my position that when something happens 4 times in a row it is not an accident. The Jets have some organizational process or underpinning meme that has led to repeated failures with rookie QB's.

Until they fix whatever that is we're going to get rinse and repeat failures as in the Wilson following Darnold failure.

I have to be honest, there is literally nothing about Zach Wilson that reminds me of Richard Todd.

If you think this is rinse and repeat you are not paying attention but that is not really shocking is it, you have a narrative and you are sticking with it. The jets roll out a vet and they maybe win one more game and I am not even sure of that. This team and season were about growing the young guys and that is what they did. If you want to blame losses on anyone it would not be Zach it would be the defense. Zach missed how many weeks 5? How many games did the jets win in his absence?

Your narrative is tired and old and makes no sense yet you keep spewing your crap all over this board. I already pointed out why young Qbs struggle it is not because they start right away.

    Just put me on ignore.

Nothing about my current posting patterns is going to change until i see improvement on the field and that is 9 months away.

@Br4d can be too negative at times IMO, but his track record is far better than the posters who keep attacking him. Something to keep in mind.

Our rebuild would be very different if we cashed out the 2nd pick last year to Phily. We could have gotten the #1 WR we're pining for this season and more high round picks for last draft and this draft. We could be sitting here now looking at taking the QB of our choice, an edge, and Hamilton in round 1, while still having 3 seconds to spend on OL, LB or moving around the board. Assuming we didn't fill those with last years extra picks.

Maybe it didn't set us 5 years back, but was Zach worth 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and a 3rd?

it goes both ways though. If philly and SF were both willing to give the bag for him and JD wasn't willing to take it then yes the NFL feels he's worth that.

The ones not agreeing with Brad about Zach are also good posters. @ColoradoContrails @cval @REVISion @Rockinz @NCJetsfan to name a few. Only bad one is @bicketybam but we love him too.

That said, what scares me about Brad is he has been right way too many times than he was wrong. In this instance I hope he is wrong. But Brad is a royalty of this board in my opinion so Zach being good or bad won't change his status in my eyes.
