This Mock, I put a lot into. It includes: -Releases -Re-Signings -Free Agent Signings -Draft Picks -Summer Extensions -90 Man Roster -Projected 53 Man Roster -2023 Draft Capital With Contract Projections Plus a full 2 Round NFL Mock Draft with Trades you can find right here: Max’s 2 Round Mock Draft w/ Trades Released Players -Ryan Griffin, TE (~$3mm saved) -Greg Van Roten, G (~$3.5mm saved) Re-Signed Players -Joe Flacco, QB (1Yr, $3.5mm) -Mike White, QB (RFA Tender, 2nd Round) -Nick Bawden, FB (1Yr, Min) -Tyler Kroft, TE (1Yr, $2mm) -Braxton Berrios, WR (3Yr, $19.5mm) -Keelan Cole, WR (1Yr, $3mm) -Morgan Moses, OT (2Yr, $12mm) -Javelin Guidry, CB (ERFA Tender) -Lamarcus Joyner, S (1Yr, $2mm) -Eddie Piñeiro, K (1Yr, Min) Free Agent Signings -James Conner, RB, ARI (2Yr, $8mm) -Brandon Scherff, G, WAS (4Yr, $64mm) -DJ Jones, NT, SF (3Yr, $15mm) -Casey Hayward Jr., CB, LV (1Yr, $3mm) -Jaquiski Tartt, S, SF (2Yr, $19mm) -Thomas Morstead, P, ATL (1Yr, 1.5mm) This would use up essentially all of the Jets $50 million in cap space, but by prorating most of Scherff’s 2022 Salary it leaves close to $10mm in space. This group brings in a bigger body RB who excels in the pass and pass-pro game, and the only big time free agent to shore up the RG spot as fas as offense. Defensively, they improve the run defense with Jones, improve the S position with a scheme familiar player in Tartt, and add veteran depth to the CB room with Hayward. Draft Trade 1: NYJ Receive: 1.20, 3.84, 2023 1st. PIT Receive: 1.10 Trade 2: NYJ Receive: 1.28 GB Receive: 2.35, 4.107, 2023 5th 1.4 Aidan Hutchinson, ED, Michigan 1.20 Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas 1.28 Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah 2.38 Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State 3.69 Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State 3.84 James Cook, RB, Georgia 4.113 Alec Lindstrom, C, Boston College 5.144 Smoke Monday, S, Auburn 5.161 Cade York, K, LSU The draft falls beautifully allowing the Jets their choice of Edge players at 4, and the then swing a trade at 10 with the Steelers to add a 3rd and future 1st. At 20 the Jets grab another stud playmaker to help build an explosive and versatile offense around Wilson. The Jets get luck a second time when the bulk of the teams in the early and mid 20’s just don’t need a LB, so they jump up to 28 and take Devin Lloyd. In the 2nd they scoop up their 2nd Senior bowl player, TE McBride, and 3rd in Ruckert with their first 3rd rounder. Then later in the 3rd, they grab explosive RB Cook as their new #3. Now with their only 4th, they pick up Lindstrom as a potential future C. With their remaining two picks, they take S Smoke Monday and best Kicker in the draft, Cade York. Summer Extensions -George Fant, OT (3Yr, $42mm) This gives the Jets OL continuity and insurance at OT. If necessary, they can spend a draft pick at OT in 2023 to replace Becton, but ideally this gives the Jets most of their OL under contract for 3-4 more years. Some minor proration for Fant plus camp cuts will put the Jets in a very comfortable cap situation for 2022, and the Cap will jump significantly in 2023 so there is not future concern either. 90 Man Roster This 90 Man Roster consists of 80 players I’ve assembled plus whatever 10 UDFA’s make you happy. Excellent - I love it! I can see all the work you put in and I appreciate it .. You even got an extra first in 2023….
I can't see Cashman making it again, has he lasted past week 2 yet before going down for the season, had promise but now he is just a walking injury? I also can't see Cole being back next season either tbh I think Maye and Fatukasi will be back. But some good stuff going on in there Max
I like it for the most part. I doubt Hutch gets by Detroit and I think Lindstrom goes in the late second. I also don’t think it makes sense to sign Conner and draft a running back. I think signing Conner would mean that we defer one more year in taking a mid round back. I’m a firm believer in playing the rookie RB nearly instantly. It’s how you get the most value out of the pick. And if they can’t be thrown in there, they shouldn’t be taken unless you have a bell cow already. Edit: I’ll also add that there’s no way a team is having their 300 pound center long snap and cover punts. The coverage team would take a huge hit and open him up to injury big time.
Well done Max! Getting Hutchinson, Burks, Lloyd, and McBride out of this draft would be amazing and likely franchise-altering! I think this roster absolutely competes for a WC spot next season and we have 2 1st's in 2023. Talk about having a super optimistic outlook going forward!
Good job. Really like it all. A couple of minor niggles but that's it. If JD could swing this I think the Jets would be far better placed than they have been in a long time.
I really like all the players you took, especially the first 6. The problem is that I don't think there's any way that both Hutchinson and KT fall to #4, and don't think that Burks will be there at #20 nor Lloyd at #28. When we need the picks more this year, I don't see the point in trading for a 2023 1st. If it's true that this is a make or break year for Zach and Saleh and maybe for JD, it makes no sense to put off a 1st round pick until next year when that possibly wouldn't help either Zach or Saleh, and JD may not be here to make the pick. Unless he is certain that they'll all still be here in 2023, I don't see him making that trade. Your resignings are fine, except for Joyner. He is coming off a major injury and is 30 or older. I hate both the Scherff and Tartt signings. Scherf can't stay healthy, isn't a scheme fit, and would cost way too much. Tartt is not good. He's the worst player on SF's D. He has stone hands. The only plus to him is that he knows the scheme. James Daniels and Xavier Woods would be much better signings imo. It's not often that Vilma and I agree, but he is totally right about the LS position. Sorry, but that's just nuts. Hennessy has been great. You don't mess with your LS position when you have a great one, and Vilma's point is spot on.
Max . Outstanding job, well thought out. I do like young Jamie Daniels in lieu of Scherff as an OG signing, probably saving 15-20M and giving similar upgrade to the line. I do smell a LB signing in FA in lieu of the RB as a bigger immediate need.
Sorry…maybe I’m reading this wrong, but are you trading away that 4th round pick twice? I see it in both trades?
am i the only one who wanted to see one or two Michael Carters drafted and more biblically-named players? honestly, i like everything about this. Outstanding job! My only knee jerk reaction was whether Sherff is the right call now. I hear good things about Zion Johnson. No idea if he's a scheme fit but (a) he'd be way cheaper allowing us to use money elsewhere and (b) biblical name
Great effort and appreciated! If you considered it, can you plz provide your reasoning for Scherff over James Daniels. I'm thinking Daniels is the better fit for his backup role at C and a bit cheaper.
good job overall and appreciate all the work you put into it, but with that said and while it could happen, realistically I don't see anyway those 3 players are there to pick in the 1st round at those spots. I'm also not a fan of the double TEs that early, I know you didn't sign one so you want to grab 2 but seems too much to invest into the TE spot. I also really dislike RB in the 3rd when we have carter and connor and Rbs are easy to find. plus I like walter and ty is serviceable. I would definetly be ok with extending fant and making him and becton locked in for the next 3 years and we don't have to worry about OT. If we do that we should also extend mcgovern. that would lock in the entire o-line for the next 3 years so they can really gel. I wouldn't give that much money to schreff though. he's been getting banged up and is older.
You had me at Conner. Then Scherff too? And Moses? And sprinkle in Becton on that side? Yikes....that's the definition of dominant. And we still have Fant and AVT on the other side. This would be a dream come true for Zack Wilson. The only thing he'd have to conquer his 2nd season is the art of handing the ball off! Think of what this lineup would do for his playaction pass too. Very nice job Max! Appreciate the hours of work this took.
Great effort Max! I almost don't feel like I'm worthy of commenting on this...but I will. If the FA and draft turned out this way it would certainly be a big upgrade. That said, I'm not wild about it. First, I DO like getting a stud Edge with the first pick...IDK if Hutch makes it to 4, but I'll be optimistic and say he will. Second, I don't think Burks falls to 20. Third, taking two TE's, although TE is a big need, using two picks on them seems a luxury. I'd prefer to get a TE in FA and then taking the best one I can get in the draft, but even if I didn't get one in FA I don't think I'd take two in the draft unless it was a case of BPA by a wide margin over other options at that pick. Fourth, like Vilma said, if you're going to sign a FA RB, why draft one, or vice versa? In this case, where I'd prefer to use my draft picks for more premium positions, I'd probably sign Connor. Fifth, Scherff seems like a big luxury, and he's got injury history. I'd much prefer to draft a stud. Sixth, I agree with NC on accepting next year's picks. If JD doesn't improve the team enough this year to make significant improvement - .500 or better and competing for the p.o. until the end - 2023 may be a moot point. That said, that's MY opinion, and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if Douglas takes the longer view and accepts future picks as compensation. As I said, I'm almost embarrassed to disagree given the mammoth effort you put into this, but those are my thoughts.
Would it be out of line to say that assuming decent luck with team health and at least respectable improvement by Zach/coaching staff that if this is exactly what happened this offseason the Jets would win 9 games next year? So that by definition calls the realistic-ness into question unfortunately but thats OK. This is after all the Mega offseason. And a Mega offseason is what the Jets could use for once.
