Its still early but I look at it like this: As long as Detroit is picking 2nd, our 4th is less appealing to a QB hungry team. No team is going to trade up just to pick the leftovers. There is really no trades ATM that are worth making, unless you want to go way down the board for next years picks. That could change with whatever deal making takes place around us. But for now, we need to focus on getting the best value using our picks, according to our needs. Bringing in multiple impact players. This means being flexible and not locking in on one player. Our first 3 rounds this draft should be: 4. If any of Hutch, Thib, or Neil are available we take whoever remains. If they're gone we go Edge George Karlaftis. 10. We take CB Stingley, S Hamilton, or LB Dean, in that order, depending on whose left. 35. If we didn't get Hamilton we take saftey Juaquin Brisker. If we took Neil at 4, we pick edge Cameron Thomas. If if we have already taken Hutch, Thib, or Karlaftis - and Hamilton, only then do we take WR's Johan Dotson or George Pickens. 38. Trey McBride TE. He should still be there and we don't gamble on him falling. IMO he is more valuable to us than any of the WRs this draft. 69. Jamaree Slayer OL. If we already got Neil, we take CB Coby Bryant. If we already got Singley and Neil we take LB Chad Muma. I feel like this is the best talent according to our needs this draft. (So far - its early). There are no WRs worthy of pick 10 and we'd be stupid to pass on the top 10 talent that will be available there.
Don't like Karlaftis at 4 based on NC's assessment. Yes I respect his opinion a lot. No problem with your choices at 10.
I’d be pretty upset with Karlaftis at 4 as well. I also don’t want Neal at 4. Hamilton for me is in play, and if both top DE’s are gone and Hamilton is gone, QB1 is still in play and I think someone will be willing to go get him.
Meh. Cmon man. I want to see who you would definitively select. That’s the fun in this all. You have it in you to put together a good (and realistic) mock.
LOVE the Jarmaree Slayer pick. Best OL on the National title team. He would start immediately at RG. My question is what would we do since Fant and a Becton are back next year if we get Neal? Fant had a pro bowl year badically. He should be a lock to start at LT.
I don't like taking Edge at 35. If he was any good, he'd be taken in the top ten. Edge is like QB, very hard to predict how they'll do at the next level. Jets should know that by now. I have no problem taking one at 4 or 10. If you need a QB, you don't wait till the second round to take one, same rule should apply for Edge..
Agreed we should take Hutch/Thib if they fall to 4. Don't like the idea of drafting Neal or Karlaftis there at all. Don't think Stingley or Hamilton will be there at 10 and 10 feels a tad too high for Dean. I think 10 is the spot for a WR if we don't trade down in the 1st. Love McBride at 38 or 35.
The difference between taking Neal or taking a DE/LB has huge ramifications. What do we do if they're all available?
I watched a podcast last week that dealt extensively with that issue. Believe it or not Neal (for those like me that don't know everything there is to know about these college prospects) can play guard and would ideally slot in there at RG to get used to the NFL while Fant and Becton played tackle. Then we all know probably when, not if, Becton or Fant can't play because of injury Neal would kick out to whichever tackle position (probably RT) to get through the injury. If the Jets were to draft Neal this actually sounds like a decent plan because you get all your horses into the race if nothing goes wrong, and if something does go wrong you've got a backup plan ready to seamlessly implement. I'm kind of agnostic on the whole idea of drafting Neal personally. Much like the last two seasons I think at this point a trade down would probably best serve the franchise. At this point I think that would be my first hope.
Man all these mocks and drafts and what not...just seems to me we are an inside out offense and defense. We win the trenches, we win the war. Saleh has said it 100 times. And do it through the draft (Joe Douglas 100 times) Saleh wants a front 4 who can torment the passer and wreck the play b/4 it ever gets off the ground. He wants an oline that dominates in their own trenches....gives young gun Zack Wilson 3 full seconds every pass play and smacks players around in the run game. This is how our D can be great w/o lockdown corners and our O can be great w/o Berry Fn Sanders. So I start there. In the Trenches. Both trenches. And ask 'where are we coming from, and where do we need to get to'. I can not see JD leaving the1st and 2nd rounds until he's done EVERYTHING he can do to get both trenches a lot closer to where they need to be. Conversations about the other spots, Zack could use a WR, we need a good TE, could use another good DB, could really use a Free Safety....all that is secondary to the trenches. I just think we're wasting time talking about WR, DB, LB in the 1st/2nd rounds. The trenches are the heart of soul of our team come game day. And Draft Day.
lol come on dude......hahahha have your own opinion...NC has NO IDEA what hes talking about. no way Karlaftis goes 4....I agree
honest question to those who want Neal at 4 if hes there. Lets say Becton comes back ready to play, healthy and all that. Fant just had a pro bowl season at LT.....where do Fant, Becton and Neal play?
Sorry jonnyd. Mr King of North. I don't watch College Ball and I need to defer it to the ones who watch players closely. NC is one of them. Leave me alone. May God dump 24 inches of snow on your town.
he doesnt watch Jet games. You think he watches college games? You think hes EVER seen a Purdue football game? not that important, Ill move on
