I am not in any way happy with the season. We still have a very long way to go. I am as much on board with the fans and a playoff expectation for 2022. But sometimes I think no matter what happens some Jets fans would never be happy regardless? So I thought bringing this up just might remind everyone where we were and how much better things are already....
I mean we beat two teams with a higher draft pick than us to eclipse the win total of the season that clip was made for. Things seem better, but we’re still a gutter franchise at this very moment.
We were 2-14, which was garbage. Now we're 4-13, which is still garbage. I'll be happy when we aren't garbage.
We DOUBLED our win total which shows real progress. You were delusional if you thought we'd win anything more than 6 games assuming absolutely ideal circumstances which never happens. It was a terrible season. I hate their record as much as anyone, I can just see some progress, albeit a very small amount.
This is kind of what's happened to me after years of losing and lost Sundays & lost seasons. I still get just as amped when we win, but I don't sulk all week anymore when we lose. It's actually a much better place to be (mentally) for myself and my fam. I no longer ditch family outings just to watch the Jets (lose). I don't know...maybe my wifey is slipping me this new meds!
Doubling your win total with an extra game, a last place schedule, nearly $100 million in cap space and three top 40 picks is not something to be proud of even if it is a small amount of progress. We lost one less game than last year.
The one thing that has me feeling optimistic is we beat the Bengals & Titans. Took the Bucs down to the wire...should have won, & played Buffalo pretty tough for 3+ quarters. These are 4 division winning teams. This tells me that when the team is playing well, We can beat playoff bound teams , just need to be more consistent week to week. This will come with experience, as we are a very young team.
My feelings as a fan for a number of years now were more or less "well if we can just find a quarterback and/or maybe a little better coach and let them just make a few moves we'll be right back in the hunt" Now ironically, while they may not exactly be all time greats in the making I do feel we probably "have" a quarterback and I think we have a little bit better coach and staff in Saleh and co. But does anybody feel like victory conditions have been achieved? Sheezus... I almost feel like we're farther away than ever at the moment. I feel like the Jets need to absolutely nail this upcoming draft just to keep our nostrils above water and the cold hard statistics of history suggest that is relatively hard to do.
Go back and look at the win prediction thread and see what percentage of the fans predicted 4 wins or less.
If you can imagine an "season excitement score" where the max is 100 the jets last year under Gase were about a 5. This year they were about 20. Too many blowouts for any significant overall excitement accumulation but 4x better than last year.
And the Bucs and Bills losses were with an absolute shell of a roster in comparison to what played in the Titans and Bengals victories. I firmly believe if we'd had say Mike Carter for the whole game we win the Bucs game.....
Meh, it's sports. When I was younger I was so invested in all the teams I root for, especially the Jets. But now I've learned to not let it bother me to the point of ruining my day/week/life. It's just not worth it. Will I get pissed off after a bad loss? Sure. Butbi let it go within a couple of hours. Life is too short to get worked up over a sports team you root for not doing well. Just my 2 cents.
i don't honestly see how that matters to this thread? I'm not here to criticize their optimism. Just pointing out they doubled their win total and the talent level has risen dramatically. Injuries remain a big concern but when they're on the field, there's no comparison this team is much more talented than last season
