Our staff is going to be coaching in the senior bowl. Think this is going to be a very good thing & an advantage for the staff & front office with some mid round picks.
This is great for us. We can get hold of second tier prospects along with some top prospects at their position and work with them for a week. Really going to get to see guys work and see who really stands out to the staff. This off-season is all set up for us to succeed no matter how you look at it. We have the opportunity and hope we take it. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Interesting that apparently the Texans didn't want to do it. From the story on nfl.com (https://www.nfl.com/news/jets-lions-named-coaching-staffs-for-2022-reese-s-senior-bowl) : LaFleur as head coach? Cavanaugh as OC? Oden as DC?
Nothing but good can come from this. It's surprising that any team would turn down the opportunity, not just for the chance to get inside the kids that are playing but to try different roles within their own organization.
Do teams actually turn this down? Jax doesn't have a HC + Houston might fire Cully so they don't want to give it to them which is understandable.
WTF? This is nuts and could ruin the Sr. Bowl. It's bad enough having a rookie HC who just finished his first season as a HC coaching the young players, but to have someone who has never sniffed a HC job, suddenly be charged with being the HC and having to get players ready to play a game in less than a week? That's insanity imo.
Florio reported last week that up to ten teams may have turned down the opportunity and says it may be related to exposing their people to Covid among college kids coming from all over with different standards. It’s good to see but I doubt there’s some sort of massive advantage to coaching the Senior Bowl. It’s not like they get exclusive access to the game - all 32 teams have plenty of representatives there. The Senior Bowl is also primarily for mid round talent anyways. A lot of the first round talent doesn’t even go because they don’t need to risk injury to improve their stock.
This is great to see as everyone knows there’s a massive advantage coaching the senior bowl. Any schmuck with bad takes can pick out top 10 talent, but anyone who knows football knows winning teams are built with gems found in later rounds.
