I don't agree at all that winning will be meaningless to any guy who plays the game (see Edwards, Herman). In fact, to assume they would be interested in actually making it easier for a draftee to take their place next year doesn't make any sense at all.
Their All Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner is out of the game. Doesn't guarantee a loss by any means, --- but helps a little bit.
If Kayvon or Aidan somehow fall to 4, one of them. If not, I would think OL or pass rusher. At 7, I would take Kyle Hamilton.
There are so many possibilities - there are players I - or any average fan - would prefer and then there’s who the FO wants. If I’m doing the picks I am thinking either EDGE, OL, or WR in the first round depending on who exactly is available. However I would also be attempting to trade down one of those picks into the later first round to potentially pick up another second rounder - where the meat of this draft seems to be - and maybe even an early round pick next year. If #7 is my first pick having traded #4 (assuming a team moves up for a QB) I am looking at either OL or a WR for Wilson preferably Williams from Alabama. That puts the offense at another level. With the next first rounder in the mid to bottom of first round I am looking at a guy like Enagbare out of SC. If he’s gone then I’d look at Dean - the Jets need LBs who can cover in space also. I feel the Jets can get a good safety in the second round - maybe Battle - which is why I don’t pick Hamilton early. I’ll add a win by Houston would be preferable. The Jets leapfrog them to the #3 spot and now there’s an excellent possibility a QB hungry team wants to leapfrog Houston for the QB they want.
@MaximusD163 updates below thread regularly each time there is a change. It is a sticky thread in the draft forum. https://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/jets-draft-capital-3-years-out.94531/
To the OP, this is one of the most useful & thorough posts I've seen. Thank you. I'm confident Seattle will lose. That team is done. I'm going to root for the Jets to win regardless. I see 4 & 7 (possibly 8), as most likely.
I’m with you I would absolutely prioritize Edge, WR and OL early…whatever the best players are in those positions…I would NOT take the safety that high…just not enough game impact…if he falls to our Seattle pick then maybe consider, but honestly if we don’t trade down, I’d much prefer to come out of our first round with two players at those three positions…OL, edge, WR. not saying we don’t need safety help, just that unless he’s the second coming of Ed Reed then we have bigger needs at more impactful positions. I’d prefer to get a safety in round 2
Rooting guide for games today: Broncos over Chiefs: gives us 0.5 game towards the SOS tiebreaker w/ Carolina and would guarantee the SEA pick be no worse than 12th instead of 13th. Cowboys over Eagles: gives us another 0.5 game towards the SOS tiebreaker w/ Carolina.
snce we lost to Denver…wouldn’t we want Denver to lose? That would give us a weaker strength of schedule wouldn’t it? not sure how denver winning helps our SOS?
If I were Denver in that scenario, I’d call the Giants and get in front of the Panthers for half the cost.
That makes sense to me. I was just going off of Nania's article. If nothing else, a Denver win would ensure the SEA pick doesn't fall below 12 instead of 13.
We could always trade our pick to another QB needy team though. I'd think they would want to get as high as possible if they're all-in on a QB.
if Denver somehow wins then tenn can rest their players giving Houston a chance to win. That would be huge.
The only team that has enough draft capital for a trade this year is philly. If you want to consider next years picks than that opens up things
