Why is is that you can call some a Homer on this forum but saying someone is a hater or a Darksider is considered heresy? It doesn't bother me either way but I never got that.

As well you should question JDs “team building” process.
He’s had the worst results of any GM in the league.

imo he acts like a college scout pretending to be GM. Complete lack of overall team building strategy, misjudges FA, unwilling to let go of his mistakes, and seemingly more worried about his draft resume than W’s and L’s.

He’s been a train wreck, and it’s not going to get better unless he changes course.
He won’t change course without feeling some heat.
Should be fired, or be given direction/oversight for team strategy.
Otherwise expect another last place 2022, with him fired at end of season.

Yes, we would have definitely had a good roster if we went back in time and hand picked guys who we know a year later are good. But lacking the ability to do so, we have to be realistic. And realistically, if we don't trade up, AVT is gone, and we probably pick Moore in the first round, because Saleh said they would but not for AVT trade. In the second round I think we pick Jenkins.

We needed a G spot badly. Dickerson and Jenkins were the highest rated options, and they went back to back early 2nd around our spot. It's overwhelmingly likely we take one of them. Dickerson was VERY injury prone, and just tore his second ACL. I still feel he is injury risk even though he was good this year. Jenkins also had some back issues, but he wasn't injured at the time and overall less injury prone. He ended up needing a back surgery after he was picked high second, and just now finally getting some special team play.

That Jenkins for AVT swap would have saved us two 3ds, but now we would have lost Echols and Pinnock, whom we ultimately good in that trade. Both pretty good players at CB and Safety. I have no idea whom we would have gotten in that 3d round, but if we wanted GVR upgrade with a 3d rounder, all Gs in the third round turned out bad. Probably we get MC with one of these two. But in this scenario, we miss out on LG with Jenkins, we have no one. Instead of we got AVT who played every snap except one game for COVID. Plus Echols and Pinnock, who are productive.

Bottom line, without a benefit of going back in time to take all the best guys, this trade worked out well.

That's an interesting take. He's had two drafts, with the last one being less than 9 months ago.

6 year contract, Chief. He's not going anywhere anytime soon.

Fwiw the trade up for AVT was one of the few moves I thought were good by JD.

finally showed some aggressiveness, feeling confident about the player and the overall effect he could have on the O, and developmental QB.
We need more of that. A lot more of it.

If he was worried about his draft resume, you would think he'd call for Mims to get more playing time and Perine to get more carries.

After next season, 4 years of that 6 year contract will be over chief.
that’s certainly firing territory for worst results in league.
He has to produce very soon.

Only NJY GM's aren't allowed to miss picks. Didn't you get the memo? :D Oh, they only get 2 drafts too. Out you go!

Candidates will be beating down the door! Woody better hire security!

Not a homer, I'm just capable of having realistic expectations for a draft. The average number of starters a team nets in a given draft is between 1 and 2. Anything more than 2 starters is a great draft. The Jets got two rock solid and very promising starters in AVT and Moore, both of which are at PREMIUM positions, and yes, I'm counting IOL here because it's still offensive line. JD got two contributors at CB in day 3 of the draft in MCII and Echols. What more can you ask from the guy?

I do think he's done a shit job in free agency and he needs to do much better this offseason.

This past draft doesn't look like a fireable one to me. But what the fuck do I know?

Next year is the year for him.

Joe Douglas is going to have his coaches and scouting/professional personnel in place for the second offseason in a row now. He has 4 picks in the top 40, 2 of which will be top 10, and a boatload of money in FA.

This team HAS to be competing for a playoff spot come December. Whether or not they make it is a different story, but the expectation has to be not having the season over by Halloween.

Also, FWIW, Joe Douglas and Saleh have the same number of years remaining in their contract.

That's the thing: all 3 of these guys came as a result of the move up to AVT. We had 23d overall, two 3ds. Ended up with AVT (LG, who was not projected to be available with 23d), Echols (CB), and Pinnock (S). If we are judging now in retrospect to say if this trade turned out good, I just don't see how it is not, I really don't. This one worked great.

If we say Mims trade, where we lost Claypool taken as next WR, and gained 4 scrubs, including Mims, was in retrospect bad, we have to acknowledge that AVT one was great.

Your saying, "because we gave up both of our 3rds for a 4th we got Echols and Pinnock". We couldn't have done better than them in the 3rd round?

Its fine that we used picks 23, 66, and 86 for AVT. LDT on the other side has been almost as solid and was pick 200.

Its not a question of is AVT solid. Its a question of are we using our team building resources correctly.

LDT has been better then GVR but has been nowhere near as good as AVT. AVT has been an elite run blocker in the entire NFL and a mostly solid but up and down (overall average) pass blocker.

Hardly matters because this conversation is still going to go round and round and round in shitty boring circles but why do you always assume that the exact right pick is going to be made when talking about what we could have done?

6 of the 9 OL taken after LDT are out of the league, 5 of the 10 OLD taken before him are out of the league. And I'm not even counting guys that are backups. So that means within two rounds on each side, 11 of the 19 OL taken are not even employed. It's quite literally statistically true that you have a better shot at landing a turd than a starter that late, so why assume that if the Jets made an OL pick at the end fo the 5th, top of the 6th, it would be a starter?

I think the problem is that you in retrospect are looking who we COULD have gotten, and then make a judgement based on that. That's not how you judge a GM. No one is going to hit on all the picks, even in the 3d round. Look at every single selection in the 3d round of 2021 draft and tell me how many really good players came out of that. Is it close to 100% hit? Of course not. So judge the GM with some sort of average in mind. JD had 23d, and two 3ds. We ended with AVT, Echols, Pinnock. That, compared to average, is excellent draft value for these picks. A big win for JD, no other way to say it.

Just look again at the Mims trade. We got 4 guys back - and went 0 for 4. The WR whom we missed out on, who was drafted with very next pick turned out to be really good. So we lost. Not every pick is a hit. If you are confident in your evaluation that you can get something close to sure thing, that's when the trade ups happen. In this case the guy who we thought was a sure thing - looks very good. AND we also hit on lesser picks we got back. A big win.

I really couldn’t get through the beginning of that essay….
The return for the #2 pick to Philly is
#12, 2022 Philly 1st, 2022 Miami 1st and possibly a 3rd rd pick. We know this bc Philly wanted to move up only if they could get Wilson and after moving back, they had the most ammo.

I did skim through but didn’t see an answer to the very very straight forward question…. Who is our QB in 2022?
