I love the Jets fanbase and think we're some of the best fans in football but oh my does it get exhausting sometimes. I'm floored by that comment, I have no idea what to say about it.

Well I'm not a Wilson fanboi that's for sure. If you think the 32nd ranked QB is the greatest thing in the world then I see why you see it differently. But Pitts is actually GOOD

I'd take either of those 2 as well. They are good. Leading up to the draft Parsons wasn't on anyone's radar for the Jets though so I'm not gonna kill Douglas for that. Chase is a good one I forgot about though and Parsons is a joy to watch

oh and that TIGHT END is (barring injury of course) probably gonna be one of the best to ever play the game. Maybe Wilson will be an average QB someday / somewhere though

Pitts is great but if you don't have a QB you have nothing.

Wilson was the right pick imo. Will he work out? It remains to be seen. Gotta take a shot at a top QB prospect when you have the chance to do so though.

You mean trading last years #2? Its a little off topic but yeah, lets look at that. But I'm not going to start with this draft and skip what we could have gotten last year from the Eagles trade.

Firstly, I'm not keeping Sam. Especially if we can get a #2 for him this year.

So we take the Eagles rumored offer.. We move down to 6 and get their second, third, and first next year.

We now have picks 6, 23, 34, 38, 66, 70, 86 in the first 3 rounds. If it was me I would have looked to trade down to 12 for another first, which is what happened, but I wont get complicated or greedy. Once you have this much capital you can be flexible.

Pick 6 was Waddle. Personally I'd have taken Devonta Smith. (Went 10)
Pick 23, I'd have taken Najee Harris. (Went 24)
Pick 34, I'll go with Elijiah Moore (Went 34)
Pick 38, Landon Dickerson (Went 38)
Here is where I'll overpay, and give pick 86 to the Saints to swap 60 for 70.
Pick 60, Creed Humphrey (Went 63)
Pick 66, Davis Mills, just for fun. (Went 67)

Getting the extra picks frees us up to target more skill players in the first round. How is this for our first 3 rounds:

    QB - Davis Mills
    WR - Devonta Smith
    WR - Elijiah Moore
    RB - Najee Harris
    T/G - Landon Dickerson
    C/G - Creed Humphrey

Imagine that was the Jets first 3 rounds coming into this season. Can you imagine how exciting we would have been, and our future would be, even if Mills busted (or we went LB, DB, T @66). It was there and not even that hard to accomplish. The above roster was not a stretch if we would have just not locked in on players. People can say, "oh its easy in hindsight" but the truth is, if not this route then multiple great paths existed, and if we had the draft capital to take advantage of it we'd would have had a genuine rebuild on our hands. Now consider we have 3 firsts this draft. Wow, its an actual rebuild and not some 4-13 cobble. We'd have been a 6-7 win team this season, even with White/Johnson/Flacco at QB - going into this draft with 3 firsts.

I'll scale it back to still fit into JDs cobble:

    6 - Devonta Smith
    23, 66, 86, - AVT
    34 - Elijiah Moore
    38 - Asante Samual Jr.
    70 - Jalen Mayfield

Even this draft would have been worth another few wins with White, Johnson, Flacco playing QB - because they were all as good as Zach - and created a solid core to build on. Plus the extra capital this season. We'd have a dream WR combo, two solid CBs, and a solid LB in the first 3 rounds to go with AVT. But this also gives a good example of how the AVT trade was out of place. Compare the two drafts. You don't spend that much on a guard early in a rebuild. Personally I'd keep the picks, which give us flexibility, and take something closer to the first draft - wouldn't you? The beginning of a rebuild should always be about grabbing blue chips - not rushing into another top 3 QB.

JD literally closed his mind to that first draft and fell in love with a QB on a 2-14 roster. I'm happy JD got some decent talent in the lower rounds, though most wont be around if/when we actually build a playoff team. Don't tell me JD had a great draft last year. It was a stupid team building fiasco - a misuse of massive capital, that is only partially salvaged by some decent lower round picks that will look like squat in 2 years. Were not the 29th ranked team because of injuries. Were 29th because we aren't that talented.

To recap, instead of a trade up for AVT, since it is usually not a good idea to trade up, knowing what he knows NOW, JD gets into the time machine, and then picks all the best players available that he knows in retrospect, still including a trade up to the player he KNOWS is good.

The only little thing missing is time machine. That, and I still think Zach pick at #2 will be proven good in another year. So, maybe hold off onto getting into time machine for a year longer, McFly?

Except AVT wasn't rated that much higher than Humphries. We took AVT at 14 and Humphries went 63rd. Can you recognize the disparity?

The "time machine" or hindsight excuse is BS because the point about this is trading the second pick to get the capital to have the flexibility to ravage the board. Even then it would still be a terrible decision from a team building standpoint to use all those picks on AVT. He wasn't a blue chip and we could have found similar value for much cheaper, and had a more complete roster.

    2020 was Idzik level bad.

This crop is still wait and see.. none look like absolute studs.. we’ve seen flashes and hopefully that translates to more production but we’ll see.

I like how your hindsight draft is “better” then JD’s in your mind, especially how you picked all the best rookies available at that time. Unfortunately, the draft working out the same and getting said players may not have happened, not to mention we don’t know how the Jets draft board looked outside of the players they picked. Who knows. Jets have AVT and Wilson and a very promising 2021 draft class as a whole.

Except I didn't pick the "best rookies", I picked highly rated prospects, and I picked them around the positions they actually went. If we would have traded the #2 it would have been a reality.

I know thats hard for a lot of people to wrap their head around now.

Love AVT--the dude is a dog! These are the guys that champions are made of.

It's awesome to have our Ryan Kelly or Quinton Nelson.

I think finding another elite talent for the other guard spot is pivotal. Or perhaps, move McGovern to guard and draft Linderbaum to play C.

Maybe draft or sign another tackle.

You would have a very formidable oline at that point.

Don't misrepresent what we could have gotten from trading the #2.

Your a Zach homer no matter what happens.

I am not a Zach homer. That's the narrative some of the sheeple here are being lead to believe.

And you will always be the guy with TWO threads on why we HAD to take Devonta Smith with the second overall pick.

It's really not. I think literally everyone understands that. The problem is you think it was the one and only pathway to success whereas the rest of us realize it's not.

2020 is bad but the jury is still out on Becton. Bryce Hall looks like a high quality get and he'll be one of the Jets starting CBs for a long time.

2021 he nailed the AVT and Moore picks, both players are going to have very successful careers. MC is going to be a solid contributor in a 1/2 punch at RB and he was a 4th round pick. MCII has done a fine job in the slot. Echols and Pinnock will be fine depth pieces. If Zach continues to develop then this draft is a homerun. The only people that trash the Jets 2021 class are Jets fans.

EDIT: I will add, I am with you on waiting and seeing. That should be the approach for every draft class. Right now, the initial results from 2021 is promising.

"They don't agree with me so they hate the Jets". The last refuge of a homer.

I'm not questioning JD draft class - I'm questioning his team building process.
