Three Patriots that concern me... 1. Richard Seymour- This guy always disrupts the offense and the running game. If we can't block him we will be in for a tough game offensively. 2. Corey Dillon- I am more concerned with Corey then Maroney. Yeah, Maroney has the big play potential, but Corey Dillon has played in the playoffs before and should get the bulk of carries. If he gets on a roll it could be bad. 3. Asante Samuel- If he can limit Laveranues Coles that usually doesn't bode well for the Jets. Laveranues Coles is the team MVP and the Jets will need him to make first downs and big plays in this game. If he doesn't show up it could be ugly. Three Jets I am counting on... 1. D' Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold- They have the daunting tasks of blocking Richard Seymour and Vince Wilfrok. If we block these guys I think we could quite frankly own the line of scrimmage. 2. Chad Pennington- The Comeback player of the year must have one of the best games of his career. Chad can have that kind of day with Eugene Wilson and Rodney Harrison both out of the lineup. If Pennington struggles the Jets WILL lose. 3. Cedric Houston- Leon is obviously a popular player now since the Miami game, but Cedric is the guy that carries the ball most of the time. We need him to provide Chad with some short 2nd and 3rd down situations.
1. Tom Brady 2. Laurence Maroney 3. Corey Dillon That abouts sums up the Patriots offense. If you stop two of three of these players then we'll fair well. 1. Brian Schottenheimer 2. DeWayne Robertson 3. The running game Our biggest problem this game is going to be coming up with a gameplan to confuse Bill Belichick who has already seen us twice. Schottenheimer will have to come up with his best day of play calling. If Robertson controls the middle, then it's just a matter of using blitz packages to confuse Brady, and we should be set. If we don't get the running game going, then Belichick is going to be able to pass blitz all day long.
You should also be concerned with Ty Warren. He was just named Defensive player (afc) of the month. He didn't play in the last game.
1. Tom Brady 2. Corey Dillon 3. Laurence Maroney I worry about the Pats DL more than anything, but I wasn't going to put the entire group on the list. 1. Chad Pennington 2. DeWayne Robertson 3. Bryan Thomas Pennington needs to play a great game, Robertson needs to hold his own at the nose, and Thomas needs to lead the pass-rushers in their pursuit of Brady.
Most definitely...he has played just as good. Like 10Pennington10 said...we would mention the entire defensive line, but that wouldn't be as interesting.
1. Tom Brady 2. Ty Warren 3. Maroney / Dillon The Pats running combo can be scary. It will take a great effort on the D-line and LBs to stop them. We will have a tough time dealing with Warren, he was out the last time we played. Once again, it goes to the trenches 1. Chad Pennington 2. Laverneous Coles 3. Jon Vilma Lets get that offense going!
Pat Players: Tom Brady- Obviously the Pats go as he goes, and that usually means they go pretty far. We need to constantly pressure and confuse him to have any chance of winning. Tommy doesn't have his favorite targets anymore and we need to cover them so he has to dink and dunk. Corey Dillon-Maroney can make the big play but if Dillon gets into it breaking off 5 or 6 yarders every play we are in for it. We need to bottle him up, because if we let him break up our defense inside the tackles then Maroney will kill us. Bottling up the run will put more pressure on Brady and force him to make plays. Richard Seymour- If D'Brick can stay with him, we will have a much easier time on offense. The running game will benefit, and Chad will have more time in the pocket to find someone open. We need to keep Chad on his feet, but Seymour could ruin that for us. Jets Players Chad Pennington- When he goes, the Jets go. We need him to come out ready to play and make the throws when he needs to. It is critical that he have a great game, because if he doesn't, we cannot win. Leon Washington- I know Houston bangs the ball up the middle, but face it, the Pats have a great interior line and that will shut Houston down. Their defense has average speed, just average, and if Leon can get to the outside and turn the corner, he will have an easy time making guys miss. We need to get the running game going to keep the Pats offense on the sideline and the defense on the field, and force Belichick's hand. Kerry Rhodes- He will be blitzing often, and we need his speed.
Patriots - Tom Brady, Richard Seymour, Laurence Maroney Jets - Bryan Thomas, Shaun Ellis, Dewayne Robertson IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE STOP THE RUNNING GAME AND PRESSURE TOM BRADY.
I agree. Chad needs to come out ready and needs to move the chains early. Very often, we get off to a slow start for some reason. We get multiple 3-and-outs before we get it going. We can't afford to be playing from behind in this one. Chad needs to come out with a sustained opening drive that results in a score.
The Jets D line: And conversely Dillon, Maroney and Faulk. Without a doubt this is probably the most important aspect of the game. If the Jets stop, or limit the run, they win.
1. Tom Brady 2. Laurence Maroney 3. Roosevelt Colvin Brady is an obvious choice. Maroney has the threat of power and speed and with the Jets run D problems, i'm worried. And Colvin off the edge is very good, i'm happy that he's healthy, but with his pass-rushing skills it gets me thinking. 1. Chad Pennington 2. Jonathan Vilma 3. D'Brickashaw Ferguson Chad has another shot to show he can win a big game, he's done so twice already in the playoffs, but this is against a team who hasn't lost at Foxboro in the playoffs and Belichick usually has the medicine for Pennington. Vilma has picked up his game the last 2 games, and has shown that attitude that he once had his rookie season, hopefully he carries that over Sunday and helps stop this run game, keep putting players in the right position and try to confuse Brady pre-snap.
Maroney Vrabel Seymour Ellis Pennington Miller (kickoff returns, because field position could be big)
Brady Maroney Vrabel always seems to play out his ass in the playoffs Coles Pennington Vilma has to have a huge game.
My EXACT thoughts! Vilma Hobson Barton and Thomas Can do nothing if Ellis, Kimo and D-Rob are Doormats
Maroney/Dillon and Vrabel worry me the most. Someone already said it, but Vrabel always kills the Jets. I'd rather we stop the run and make Brady throw it than just let Dillon and Maroney run all over us. For the Jets, as it has been all season, we're going to need Pennington to play well this game. No turnovers, smart passes but not neccesarily big numbers. Mangini has to call the right gameplan or we lose. Justin Miller, with the teams being pretty even, Miller can be the wildcard with a big return on ST.
Very cool thread... Reverse style: 3 Jets I am concerned about: 1. Kerry Rhodes - Awesome safety who can eliminate Caldwell from Brady's passing attack 2. Leon Washington - Can eat up clock time and run effective routes, similar to Jones-Drew 3. Jericho Cotchery - Has the ability one-on-one to dominate the dink-and-dunk pass game, eating up clock time 3 Pats I am counting on: 1. Ty Warren - Did not play in the 2nd meeting, Warren has turned his game to a Pro-Bowl level this year. His pass rush has been so dominate, he allows Seymour & Wilfork to play better since more attention needs to put on Warren 2. Daniel Graham - The Patriots need Graham in blocking schemes to be an extra lineman in pass protection and a key run blocker in running downs 3. Laurence Maroney - Will need a huge game from the 2nd head of our 2-headed running monster. Dillon has been on fire lately, and Maroney on the Field Turf should get us both key yards and a good rest for the highly effective Dillon.
