I'd trade him for a third. Saleh is all about high motor and this guy obviously doesn't have it.

Hopefully he figures it out. I don't really care if it happens here or not.

I just read Saleh's comments on Becton today.

First, most likely not going anywhere... But, while subtle, I heard some challenges from Saleh to Becton and it's what everyone already thinks.

He's fat and his priorities aren't straight. I think if he misses OTAs or comes in in bad shape to start the year it's going to go downhill fast for him.

I listened to it. It was very discouraging. He was also alluding to the fact Becton is a big guy and healed slow because of that. I mean he can get injured again - does that mean recovery time is quadrupled because he is big? Just in general very discouraging when it comes to Becton. Also was asked if he should move to RT and let Fant stay at LT. Saleh didn't really want to answer, but didn't rule it out either, said we will see the mindset when Becton comes back.

With this Becton news, I’m rethinking the idea of taking an OT in the 1st or 2nd round.

Some solid options in this draft and you could keep Fant at LT and have the rook and Becton battle in camp at RT.

I dont know if I'm giving up on Becton to the point where I want a OT in the first.

Having said that, all bets are off after the first or if there is a trade back. Cant really trust him to stay healthy.

I don't think it has to do with being healthy. As others said his injury was the type that could happen to anyone.

It's his head. He doesn't want to seem to put in the time and effort to keep his body in shape to play at a high level. He also seems to think it's perfectly ok calling coaches out to the media and writing stupid crap on Twitter. I guess if he does get hurt, you can't guarantee he will heal in a proper amount of time.. but that goes back to not being in shape because of his attitude.

The Jets posted a picture of Becton and his pregnant wife and said baby Becton coming 2022. People were posting “congrats Mehki, when are you due?” It was funny

Let the guy get back on the field before we trade him away.

It could be that he knows they want to get him on the field to improve his trade value and he doesn't want to be traded.

I want him regardless!! and ftr, Fant has been playing beastly. This can easily go from horrible to amazing in one season.

I think at some point if we're going to take the wide zone seriously, we need to stop chasing giant oversized tackles.

I am a firm believer in building your OL for a young QB and the future. We need another one or 2. While I wasn’t too keen on the Becton’s pick but I hope he comes through. It’s alarming though of the injuries he suffered to date. That said I am for drafting another OL high but perhaps not until the 2nd round? With heavy draft picks early in the first two days, I hope JD drafts well to balance both sides of the ball to make immediate improvements.

In fairness to Evan Neal he’s same size as George Fant. Fant has been excellent since taking over for Becton.

If Neal is available, I have no problems with Jets selecting him and cementing both tackle spots for next 4 years.

They need to start dominating the line of scrimmage in order to be a better red zone team and to sustain drives.

Ikem Ekwonu (NC State) is another prospect that plays Guard that Jets should be looking at, if Neal is not on the table.

Height is not the definition of size. George Fant is a lot smaller than both of those guys, just not in the height category.

I believe Neal is 6’6 350, Fant is 6’6 340, if your telling me that Fant has maxed at that weight and Neal can potentially get bigger I can definitely see that.

However I don’t want to shy away from legitimate game changing talent on the line of scrimmage because Becton may not work out for Jets.

George Fant is consistently listed in the 320s everywhere and offensive linemen tend to lose weight as the season goes on so he's probably closer to 315 right now.

His playing weight in college was in the 200s so his frame is lighter than both Becton and Neal and I think that's exactly why he does well, he's very mobile.

Drafting in the top 10 it is easy to go chasing the physical freaks that you think might be able to do the job consistently when you have the freedom to draft guys that you know can do the job.

Aren't you concerned about another behemoth OL after the way the Becton pick is playing out? Guys that big who are excellent, reliable players are the exception. They're usually too big to stay agile enough to play the position well or stay healthy. That's doubly true with the scheme our OL runs under LaFleur.

6'5, low 300's seems to be the sweet spot for elite tackles in the NFL. They're big enough where nobody is going to bully them and light enough to retain the needed quickness and agility.

Honestly I just find it hard to stomach sinking yet another high first rounder into OL. I know OL is important but we have more pressing needs at the moment such as S and WR.

The thing is Fant's contract is up after next season. He's played well enough to cash in, so do we want to pay him?

Looking forward, its a good idea to get another tackle in the first two rounds. I'd say we also need another center and guard in the first 3 rounds. But then, we have so many needs...
